Reminds me of Space Hulk for the Amiga. Not that I remember anything really from that game other than the twelve year old me found it a bit scary.

Oh man, Drew losing patience with the exposition in the middle of this quick look is my Giantbomb moment of the year. Finally they've found a game too slow for Drew!

Edit: Also, that crosshair is horrendous. It's like the worst kind of "laser sight" thing crossed with a horrible original xbox game crosshair.

This is the kind of game that makes me happy that I do not own a Gaming PC.

Dan, an airlock is to keep all of the air from rushing out of the ship when you "open the screen door". Conversely the same would apply to a submarine to keep water from filling your boat.

I cant tell if the flickering in the video is becaus eof the lights or something went wrong in the capture process. It starts around minute 15 and than ends but comes back again.

While Vinny is clearly irreplaceable, Dan makes a good foil for Drew as well

The fact that Gabe Newell literally forces everyone to play Ghostship Aftermath at knife-point is decidedly the worst part of PC gaming :(

I kinda loved the weird awkwardness of this video.. but yeah, the game looks rather unpolished, so put it kindly.

Sometimes Dan's lack of knowledge on topics (in this case what happens to you in space) is a little weird, but at least he asks questions and tries to learn more about the stuff. Or something like that.

Hmm what tipped you off radio guy? Was it the bodies floating around in zero-G, the messages written in blood on the walls, or the hatched alien eggs all over the place?

Dan, the point of airlocks is to load in the next area without jumping to a loading screen. As this game has both I understand your confusion.

Dan: space is a huge vacuum. Air wants to fill a vacuum as quickly as it can. An airlock makes sure that the air inside of the spaceship stays inside, rather than trying to rush out to fill the vacuum. If a ship was built with a screen-door that you could push open at will to step out and enjoy the cold view of space: 1. the room of the ship you just stood in would likely explode as the air rushes out (at explosive speeds) to fill the vacuum in space. 2. You'd likely die in the process.

The same is true for your lungs. From what I understand, holding your breath in space would lead to microscopic wounds in your body as the air inside is trying to fill the vacuum around it. Don't hold your breath in space.

Some others have already mentioned it, but if you hold your breath after getting sucked into space, the change in pressure is going to cause your lungs to explode! Just scream all the air out and you can survive until your blood starts to boil.

In space, no one can hear you do this weird crouch thing.

I will say it's pretty impressive what amateur game developers can do now. My guess this is a student project or something, which isn't me slogging it, just that, its a full on 3d game with voice acting and stuff, so for a first or second attempt at a game, it's pretty impressive what people can do now.

@drewbert@danryckert Capillaries are not veins, but very small blood vessels. Veins are large deoxygenated blood vessels. Your lungs and hollow organs would burst immediately in space.

It won't surprise you to learn that there is a wikipedia article about space exposure. There is another one about sudden decompression. I interpret them as saying that you might last 90 seconds (in a state of unconscious paralysis) in a vacuum before certain death, and no, unfortunately your head/body wouldn't explode if exposed suddenly to space.

That clip count is tucked way too far away for my tastes.
