These games have been way ahead of what capcom has done for a long time. This is great stuff.

The technical art in this game is SO FRIGGIN' COOL, it's like I'm being tricked every frame because I know the characters are 3D but the technical execution is so precisely mimicking 2D while looking far better lit and sharp that I find it hard for my brain to understand.

More developers need to abuse their 3D tools to create cool effects like the ones here.

The best tutorial in the business. It actually makes it fun to do rather then "do x combo".

Does this game have an offline CPU vs CPU mode? (Even if it's just in training mode or somesuch?)

A lot of past Guilty Gear games had that controller menu where it'll say "COM vs COM" if you put the controller between the two player sides, but it won't actually let you start a match until you choose a side.

I like to mess around with a close friend in making custom CPU tournaments, but only some games allow this.

Jeff's revision 3 dig was pretty brutal.

I love how either Jeff or Dan always end up crushing the Fighting Game enthusiasts at Giant Bomb.

Off-topic PSA:

Keeping goldfish is usually torture unless you have a huge aquarium or a pond in your garden, theyre supposed to become like 20-30 years old and can get huge in nature/when they get properly taken care of.

The thing is if you keep em in less than 40 liters of water per goldfish they stay small but their insides slowly keep growing until it gets too cramped in their bodies, they can even still survive 10 years like that. Immagine that, its slowly being crushed from the inside over 10 years, no way to communicate its lifelong intense suffering. All for your enjoyment.

Im not sure why we treat this unlike other animal abuse. I'd guess most people just dont know.

My first Guilty Gear experience. Presentation is ludicrous. The mechanics seemed rock solid and deep when I played the demo so I just ended up buying it. Does anyone here have recommendations for a good PS4 fight stick?

This doesn't even come close to some of the Kingdom Hearts titles, and even those are tame compared to some of the more niche stuff that doesn't come out of Japan.

The online lobby and the shear beauty almost makes me want to pick this game up. The systems just seem so intimidating.

Check my previous post, there is a reason the guilty gear characters are named like that. They are almost all references to heavy rock and metal bands.

To be fair, that one was clearly intentional. Street Fighter has still had some dumb version names in the past, but I still don't think they hold a candle to Guilty Gear's absurdity.

@lestephan: I haven't eaten fish in probably 15 years or more and think seafood like lobsters and claMs etc is gross to eat bugs from the sea. We went whitewater rafting and caught a trout and I named him Morton when I was a teenager my dad insisted I eat it but I didnt, I don't even like sushi but we had some pacus a few years ago that got Popeye it was hard to watch them suffer. I am playing magikarp jump and the magikarp song is the most adorable fish related thing I've ever seen. That is sad and those are my fish stories. I guess I ate sushi but only eel when I lived in Vegas but never fish. Fish is gross.

Question for you fighting game people. Is Guilty Gear like the Dota of fighting games in terms of how complex it is? I know nothing about fighting games so please don't hate me.

I don't think it's really that much more complex than your modern Street Fighters and Tekkens and whatnot, it's just different kinds of complexity. Having started my fighting game training mostly with anime fighters (and anime-ish fighters like Marvel) I actually find games like Tekken much harder to play.

The biggest hurdle is probably what Jeff mentioned in that so many characters have completely unique mechanics, so it's hard to pick up and play a new character without practice. And by extension, learning to counter each individual character is not easy. But when you're starting out you don't really need to worry about that too much. Just learning to play your own character well is usually enough outside of high level play.

My problem with Revelator (and 2 as well) "teaching method" is that it is split between Tutorial, FAQ, Mission and Combo. It was my first Guilty Gear, and at the end of the tutorial I had no idea what an Instant Kill was and how to use my burst and what was the utility of Dust besides "a weird attack", even Throws it didn't mention... If you dig in the other Dojo modes and the FAQs it actually tells you about this stuff, but is super counter intuitive for people new to the series...

Some time later I played Sign tutorial and it was much better, it taught me everything about the game systems, although it was a bit more boring and longer...

About Rev 2, I thought it as was a bit shitty to not include the other three DLC chars in the DLC upgrade (they do on the full release tho)... It makes me regret buying Revelator full price a lot (didn't know Rev 2 was going to be released soon)...

But hey, it looks awesome!
