Yeah, same. Hell, I was even kind of okay with KH2 but as soon as they started making all those terrible spin-offs they totally lost me.

Joshua's voice sounds kinda off to me. And was not nearly as smug or giggly as I remembered.

To be fair, KH games have always been slow to start. But I'll stick with 1 and 2.

of course the story is incomprehensible if you talk through the cutscene where shit actually gets explained somewhat ... granted the kh games are pretty much for fans only at this point , but wtf .. im glad ryan picked up on the multiple health bar thing , but really not working out what the key stood for , when brad states the very game mechanic in his complaint .. "every time i go through the door it just puts the key where i came from"

i know this is a common complaint , and i couldnt care less about kingdom hearts to be honest , but these kinds of quick looks are way more insulting to a game than an obviously tounge in cheek quick look where they come in mocking the thing outright .. this makes them look ignorant , and any criticisms they have , whipe possibly valid , just seem all the more pulled out of their ass , especially when you really only hear the same carbon copy statement of a game like this on the quicklook then the bombcast if its brought up with what they have been playing.

im all for criticism , but one has to at least study the thing you criticize a bit harder , .. i dont know any other short review medium that judges books based on their covers as much as quick looks do.. it seems a bit crass ..

and thought i acknowledge its entirely up to them what they do in their videos.. I do think I'm still entitled to criticize Brad and Ryan etc, because i have studied them extensively for years eheh.

Loved the first two KH games actually, but entirely lost track since. Speaking of which, any chance of an HD collection of the first two games?

Judging a KH game's combat on the default 3 swipes is asinine. I understand the nature of the quick look, but whenever Brad speaks with dismissive confidence I grind my teeth. Glad he gave it a chance though.

It looks interesting. I still want to play KH 1 and 2 before I pick this up.

yeah these guys seriously need to at least play KH1/2 and BBS before even attempting this game. They've set themselves up to look like idiots and it's a shame because KH3D is pretty awesome if you're on top of things.

If it's like Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, they make you play a couple hours of bullcrap before you get to the Disney stuff.

I've only played the two main KH games, but they probably had the worst storytelling in any game I've ever played.

I used to like this series...

I loved 1 and 2. The story was just fine and fun. But for some reason, SE seems hellbent on adding more and more stuff to the point that it's an incomprehensible mess to follow now unless you're a diehard fan of the series.

After watching this quick look, I feel as if I know nothing more about this game than could be inferred simply from the title.

I'm not really not into anime boys and Japan is ok. I still manage to really like the series first 3 games. I won't deny that the Weeaboo crowd does love it, but there is more to the game than pretty dudes being melodramatic.

Theses cutscenes are brain poison.

Wow, this quicklook felt really unfair to the game with Ryan and Brad making so many ignorant comments and wanting the game to be what they think it should be despite not being interested or invested in the KH franchise.

I've only played KH1 and 2 but this looks pretty good - the music sounds great and the combat looks interesting. The story may be shot to shit but, its not the first time that I've delved and enjoyed a game despite not knowing all or anything about its pass iterations (MGS4 comes to mind).

I may pick it up this weekend.

Brad seemed to talk about how the 2nd game didn't have a lot of Disney, but besides the first horrible 3 hours of that game everything is disney afterwards.

@BabyChooChoo: Really just playing Birth By Sleep would clear about a good 90% of the confusion people who've only played KH1/2 would have. Everything that's happened in this series plotwise is based on the events of that game. It's generally considered the best KH game too so no reason to not play it other than not owning a PSP.

If you're a die-hard fan of the series, what is said in the Quicklook shouldn't matter to you. You're going to buy it and play it, so who cares?

As someone who has never played one of these games, but does own a 3DS and likes to keep up on new titles, this is perfect for me. I can see what the basic gameplay is like and decide that it's not for me. Which incidentally is what I've done. The point of the QL isn't to give you the entire story and every minute detail from the game, it's more like trying something out for a few minutes in a store.

After playing the demo for this awhile ago, it was clear this game just isn't for me. I actively disliked everything about it. Voice acting, UI, gameplay, and graphics. Yet I think I could probably trudge through the original. I guess it doesn't help to try to jump into something multiple games in to whatever story arc is going on.

I really liked part 1....After that...."up it's own ass" is an accurate assessment...

I understand that sometimes these guys definitely put on blinders to some games and cruise through with their preconceptions. That can be annoying to any fan. But let's not get it twisted. The dialogue in Kingdom Hearts is terrible. Ryan was spot on the mark about it feeling like "Everyone's talking like crazy people and they're all agreeing with each other!" There is a storyline buried under the constant asinine nonsense that most of the KH characters dribble out. It's been like this since the first game, but at least that one was more straightforward and the fanservice was palpable. It was (mostly) lighthearted and silly. Starting with KH2, these games have jumped off into the deep end.

They are fun games, there's no doubt about that. But the series' total story/dialogue bullshit turns off even people like me, who played and finished the first and second games probably 4 times.

If you haven't played TWEWY, do give it a go. It's probably my favorite original DS release of all time. There are still a lot of Squenix melodramatic cutscenes, but the gameplay hooks are so good.

Riku's always been there. So has Traverse Town. So has the Traverse Town music (though this is a remix). Fuck Cloud, TWEWY is way better than that game. I'd rather have Neku and Rhyme.

Also, are the glowing exits in the bottom screen the "objective indicators"?

I hate Kingdom Hearts. Sora is the definition of bland awful, generic JRPG protagonist, and fully agree with Brad's comments.

However, it's good to see more The World Ends With You stuff. Really hoping for The World Ends With U2, with playable Bono.

All of the openings to the Kingdom hearts games have always been so weird, they seem to exist for the sole purpose of pushing people away. It is nice to see all the TWEWY characters though.

I got real interested in that cutscene at the end.

There seemed to be a lot of shitting on this game due to the fact that they haven't kept up with the fiction. Why is it a bad thing that this series has become more than just a mash-up of Square and Disney characters?

I've never played the Kingdom Hearts games in the past, but the confused reaction to seeing a character they had in this quick look seems like something that would happen in any series if you just hopped in at the fourth or fifth game. I understand not having the time nor interest to keep up with the series, but just hopping in and expecting it to have everything you want to see seems kind of... ignorant.

Other than that whole thing, I thought this looked pretty alright from the quick look. My major complaint of what I saw was waaaay too many battles. I really hate when I'm trying to explore and am just constantly having dudes thrown at me to fight.

Sometimes, I wish that Giant Bomb would look at a QL that they recorded, realize that it's not actually saying anything useful about the game, and opt to not post it. This isn't even about Kingdom Hearts - a series that, even as a fan, I will fully admit has some serious, serious issues - or misrepresentation. It's about going into a game that you don't care about and not even taking the time to say anything meaningful about it. I watched the entire video and didn't learn anything new about KH3D. Why even waste your time or ours?

Why quicklook if you are just going to talk mess and not try to understand it? I'm not a fanboy and didn't play anything outside of 1 and 2 but this is actually a solid RPG once you get all the insane mechanics...

At 25:00 the main character sounds VIOLENTLY like Raz from Psychonauts and it's freaking me out.

I've played all but two of the Kingdom Hearts games but I also know basic storytelling skills and man is it a one sided fight between my investment in those characters and the screaming voice inside my head that just keeps on bringing up how comparable their storytelling is with current mainstream comics and how much I hate the majority of comics storytelling today.

I thought Birth by Sleep was a step in the right direction but they should either make their fiction less convoluted so they can get more people interested or hurry up and release Kingdom Hearts 3 so you can actually gets some money off of that product before your fan base dwindles down till the investment in a full on console game becomes poor business. Not that I think they could really get much out of a Kingdom Hearts 3 financially anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the series just sort of stopped and tapered off into nothingness...

I fully expected they weren't really going to be into it, but even so I thought they were being pretty fair in what they said.

Though I am a Kingdom Hearts fan and have played all the games in the series, I am not a blind fan and I am able to find faults with the games where they exist.

Also, Brad told me that they got to Tron world minutes after the quick look ended.

If you haven't already realized it by now, you should know that it is common for Brad to always skip cutscenes and power through most dialog ignoring any and all text that is common in introducing the player to the game's story and how to play it in general, for games he is not really interested in playing. The problem is, if the Quick Look is about a game he doesn't really want to play; he will just skip through everything and that ends up being clueless if it is a heavy story driven game with somewhat unique mechanics. It is not his fault, we are all guilty of this. However most of us choose to buy our games. He has to power through many many games and most of them he most likely doesn't like. His job is to play these games and review them, so he has a lot of games he has to get through. Which leads to less opportunity to be able to take the time to enjoy them, maybe. The quick looks on the games that Brad actually has an interest in are really great, he really brings some interesting insight into them and you can tell he enjoys them. I know this is his job to do this, but I think most people wouldn't be all to excited to demo a game for which they have no interest in. Just giving the benefit of the doubt.

Not sure about anyone else but I DON'T want to watch or listen to cutscenes in a quicklook, I want to see the game in action. All that other discussion you are blabbing on about doesn't matter, these are just to quickly show a game, it's not to dig into the depths of it, hence "quick look".
