walking dead season 1 was good but holy shit did telltale drop the ball on everything after. i really dont understand why they are so critically acclaimed, every script they've ever made feels ripped out from some awful after school kid/young adults show

With this comment, I feel like the Walking Dead Season One was the only Telltale game you played. Wolf Among Us was great.

Also, I had this playing while I was preparing dinner and when GBeast said "Here's Minecraft, a Telltale game" I laughed in the kitchen and said to myself, "those Beast-boys are such kidders!"

Then it turned out they were right.

Huh.

i played that too. it was ok but it was really nothing special. and its not like i super enjoyed walking dead either. i really just want someone to make adventure games that dont feel like theyre appealing to the lowest common denominator. i mean just look at this game

Funny how Paul Reubens does that "regular-guy" voice on like every cartoon I hear him in, yet his Pee-Wee role is still the most notable in his career. It could be the celebrity appeal it kinda has, but I think this game looks kinda great. Great sense of humor, at least.

Stoked to see Brian Posehn and Patton Oswald working together on a game. Been following Posehn since the Mr. Show days, his stand-up is fucking riotous.

I take issue with the fact that Austin insists that "red dust" comes from "redstone," after Vinny corrects himself. In fact, "dust" hasn't been referred to in the naming since Alpha 1.0.4. At this point, its purely a colloquial reference to redstone itself. So its crazy to me that you would mess up and call it red dust, when the game never explicitly refers to it as such.

Edit: Ultimately I quit about 4 minutes in because I realized that I needed this game to be treated with a modicum of respect. An ample supply that GB East simply cannot provide to any game.

TESTED

It's cool seeing the world of Minecraft realized in a different way, and this doesn't look bad, but it does just kind of seem a bit soulless.

Also maybe Minecraft is just so done to death thanks to Youtube, but I'd actually love watching Alex, Vinny, and Austin fucking around with it. It's been a damn long time.

I'd imagine that this is designed for kids and honestly, It seems fine for that. Not that kids deserve any less quality than the rest of the market, but this looks fine.

Actually you know what, this looks pretty good. Looks way better than I expected.

I'm sorry, but I can't get myself to like this game. I've had a copy of Minecraft since the early days of the alphas and I love it. I don't play it all the time, but I go back to it from time to time. This game looks like a glorified YouTuber fan-fiction. Everyone is so fucking smug all the time they look like they were taken from one of those stupid thumbnails they are always using, with stupid faces and stupidly large text.

Ugh.

This is what you want to take issue with? Perhaps you're just having a bad day.

I'm not sure I'd think an all-silent run of a The Walking Dead would be as "brutal and upsetting" to watch as Austin makes it to be.

It's just a video game... and one made by Telltale to boot. You'll more or less end up in the same place no matter what you choose.

Looks decent but isn't for me, sure kids into Minecraft will adore it.just seems flat especially after coming off of Tales From The Borderlands which did an incredible job of doing a colourful adventure, the characters in this game don't seem that great.

Just a comment for Vinny about Max playing Minecraft. My oldest son is 7 and plays Minecraft regularly. He started being interested in the game at age 6 and is pretty great now at building things in the game. My middle son is 5 and will regularly play the game alongside his brother (he also enjoys playing the Lego based video games.) I think you will find that once your kids hit school and there are friends in school playing Minecraft (my guys have even played the game in school on the Library computers) that they will want to play the game at home. I have sat and played the game myself with my boys and it can be quite a lot of fun to work together and build a giant structure.

There definitely seems to be some quality here, but I expected this to be 110% kid-friendly, and the presence of even very minor coarse language makes me less certain. With how many very young kids like Minecraft, that surprised me. For me, at least, that ruled it out as a gift for my friend's kid. Glad to see this got a Quick Look. I was definitely curious about this odd thing.

It's a game I enjoyed playing quite a bit. Its not my favorite game of all time, but by no means my least. If I want something other than the coverage GB is giving to it, and choose to look elsewhere, why is that a problem? Am I now inexorably chained to Giant Bomb, unable to decide that their coverage of a particular game isn't for me? Am I barred from ever seeking out a different opinion from a different place? Isn't GB a website about understanding the review's opinions and basing your understand off of that? Can I not look for a reviewer who will cover this game with an opinion similar to mine, so that I can get a full and valuable understanding of this game?

You're well within your rights to all of those things, but I'll point out that if you're going to only look for a reviewer who always shares your opinions, you'll very rarely get "full and valuable" understanding of games -- more often then not, you'll get just someone who reinforces your already-established beliefs.

im a big fan of both Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn so I picked this up. The people in the comments here saying its for kids and might be a little dull because of that arnt wrong, but I had a good time with it. There isn't any groundbreaking storytelling happening in the first episode, but nonetheless it's fun.

Why do games these days keep starting with some line about "how you play changes the story". We get it, it's a video game.

Because theres the possibility that people playing these games have never played another like it. Weird eh?

I don't think anybody is telling you to do that. It just seems like what you're doing is ranting about "a total lack of respect for the game" for the equivalent of someone accidentally calling a mage a wizard. Clearly none of them have played Minecraft "seriously," and they all play dozens of games a year. Is that really what constitutes an unforgivable offense to you?

It feels really weird that this kid focused game has cursing in it. Probably going to ruffle some feathers if parents actually pay any attention to what their kid is playing.
