Just going to say that Soma is fantastic. They delve into all that consciousness stuff in a really fascinating way.

The game itself seems cool, but with any game like this, I just feel like I'd rather be playing Isaac instead :|

@beachthunder: For a stretch there, I fought that feeling about ANY game other than Isaac. Dark times.

It's still one of the few games I've never uninstalled.

Is it possible to turn off the screen shake? The game looks awesome but just the first 5 minutes of the quick look is giving me a headache.

As others have noted, there have been a bit too many games that look exactly like this. I really can't distinguish between most of them.

This seemed like a very good one of these. Had some weight to it!

Of course, I mostly came into the comment section trying to find people going crazy about them missing the "share" button in multiplayer that's RIGHT THERE, GOD :D

I saw a "SHARE" label when you guys were messing around in the post-level equipment interface (19:41). Maybe poke around some more in there, might be a way to swap items.

Did not expect to click on a Quick Look of a twin stick roguelite shooter to be almost immediately greeted with a discussion of the ship of Theseus.

I got this after seeing it played last UPF. It’s fun, but I still prefer Nuclear Throne.

@julesodies: While I would much rather play Nuclear Throne than this, the soundtracks aren't similar.

@beachthunder: this game looks cool but I feel the same way about Isaac, despite doing everything there is to do on the PS4 version (for now) when I play Nuclear Throne or Gungeon it just doesn't hook me like Isaac does. A lot of it has to do with the crazy item synergies and how overpowered you can get I guess.

Really liked Nuclear Throne. Isaac never clicked with me. Definitely going to buy this over the next sale.

Isaac is a hundred percent about the item synergies and zero percent about being competent as a dual stick shooter, so I can't understand comparisons between that and this game, Nuclear Throne, etc.

I keep hearing that people may be getting sick of pixel art games, but dammit, I love them. I'm always excited for a well made game with cool looking pixel art.

I was super interested in this game, but didn't end up playing more than an hour or two. It looks really nice, and feels alright, but it's also very easy and the loot management stuff is so awkward that I quickly started to dread finishing a level and having to compare weapons (And, I love loot games). The field of view and the weapon range both feel too short. You also can't really move fast enough to effectively dodge shots without dashing, so I ended up just triggering enemies and moving backwards while shooting over and over.

Overall I just thought it was kind of boring?

I think anything well made will always be able to stand it's ground no matter what swing the mood of our glorious gaming populace is in at the moment. It's the saturation of the market with sub-bar copy-cats trying to ride the coattails of better products that tend to taint the entire "genre" so to speak, if one could ascribe that label to a stylistic choice.

I would count myself among the crowd that is "tired" of pixel art games, and this one in particular looks kinda by the numbers, kinda lacking that certain oompf, although the art is nice. At the same time I look at Rain World and I think it looks really exciting. So who knows?

I wish the indie game scene didn't revolve so heavily around the flavor of the month mentality. I remember back in the early 360 days when the promise of indie games was people making stuff that had never been done before and taking risks no one else would take. Fast forward 10 years and the reality of indie gaming is it looks a lot like low budget AAA games where everyone seems to be canabizing each other's ideas and trying to cash in on the flavor of the month. Having been through the period where every other indie game was a variation on tower defense, then the period where every other indie game was an 8 bit platformer and now the period where every other indie game is a rogue like with random loot drops I am sad at how quickly the indie scene has devolved into a me too poaching match. Obviously there are great indie games and developers who still aspire to the early ideals, but the wheels of business have turned indie games into the very thing those developers decried a decade ago. There are too many indie games now that are just trying to be "The Next (insert popular game here)" and AAA games have embraced innovation and experimentation in a way that puts most modern indies to shame. It's incredibly disappointing to see what has become of the dream of anyone being able to make their own games.

Nice. The quick look impressed me so I picked up the game on Steam. I just upgraded to a Surface Book from a Pro and it's great on there. I keep the new Bluetooth Xbone controller in my messenger bag so I can pull that out and play a bit of this while I'm out and about. Lots of fun.

There is still plenty of that. There's a value to both sides, to truly innovative titles and iterative titles that build on what we've learned as a collective industry.

This game is a lot of fun and does a lot of clever things to improve upon the genre, and I'm glad for it as a result.

I also don't go out playing every indie game/roguelike out there so that helps. I see where you are coming from but for me, I think it's more an issue of exposure than development.

This game is simple but sweet and the soundtrack I've been listening to non-stop on spotify since the UPF where the game was showed first. At first it sounds like the typical modern retro synth stuff but much like the game there's little qualities and neat quirks that reveal themselves over time.

@lochraven: Yeah, maybe 10% of NT's soundtrack is electronic driven a most. It's lots of wistful guitars and crashing cymbals.

@lochraven: The gameplay(movement) and shooting look very inspired from Nuclear Throne.

One of the dudes from Vlambeer did a talk about how he makes things fun, about movement, shooting, fx, etc... that's on the internet.

I'm getting the impression that A LOT of indie people saw it and straight up used Vlambeers points to make a bunch of games. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit transparent and at this point, bland.
