Painful to watch Jeff playing this. Its not often Jeff comes off as being in over his head on a video game.

Racing games played by Jeff are probably the only ones that make my eye twitch at the sight of his choice for the camera view. He always plays the game as if you're a witch on a broom, and I hate it. And I'm NOT SORRY!!! I like looking at my cars while racing, or at least see the interior with cockpit view.

Still a little unsure about this, would have to give it a go. Would love to see Donnington race track on there, especially considering they have Snetterton and Brands Hatch already.

Though I'm digging that soundtrack.

Is Formula A/B/C an actual thing, or are they using it as analogues for F1 and similar things because of licensing, or the lack thereof?

I'm dying for a racer that has me start off with enough money to chose from a used standard car and autocross, going up to fun little <$500 ish racing leagues, then up and up and upwards in the ranks. That's right, I'm dying for 2017-2018 :/

(Really do like what I see here though in car and track and gameplay.)

So, this is a bit confusing, because Formula A, B, and C are/were real things, but the categories in the game aren't reflective of them and are entirely made up. I'll try my best to describe it, but some of the dates/leagues could be wrong depending on perspective, if that makes sense.

In the game it's:

  • 2011 Formula A -fictional 2011 Formula 1 cars
  • 2011 Formula B -fictional GP2-type Formula cars
  • 2013 Formula C - fictional Formula 3/Atlantic type cars

In real life it's:

  • 1967-1976 Formula A (F5000)
  • 1974-Present Formula B (Formula Atlantic)
  • Mid '60s Formula C (Which effectively became Formula Continental not long after, which still runs today)

In racing games I want to drive the car from where you drive a car, also, cockpit view is so much more intense and cool to look at.

Now I really want to play a racing game where you can match karts against regular cars.

Shift 2 had that same helmet view, makes sense that they'd use it here too.

Maybe it's because of arcade games we grew up with, but hitting the brake pedal too late into every corner takes a lot of patience to get right. Having taught friends how to drive in simulated racing games, this is easily the biggest stumbling block.

Make mental notes to remember the exact point at which you hit the brakes and what the result was (too deep, shallow, etc) for each lap. After awhile your muscle memory will do the rest for brake, turn-in and acceleration.

Driving games become incredibly satisfying and meditative once you have the basics of it down.

The later.

In other words it might actually be good.

What's the real difference between this and Driveclub? This looks like it has its foot more in the pro racing door (with more race cars as opposed to real cars) but the driving/graphics doesn't look too much different to me.

This is coming from someone who owns Driveclub who wonders if this is gonna be worth it for me...

Driveclub is waaaay more arcady, while this aims for more realism and simulation. Its hard to explain how driving physics feel but if you try it yourself you will notice the difference within 5sec.

Just look at Drews first 5sec ;)

I've been playing it for a few days, and it's kind of what you expect a community-funded and car fanatic-created racing game to be. The driving is really good, but everything else is kind of a mess. The interface is horrible (most likely something they created for during the beta phase, but never got around to make something decent), and they leave you to fetch for yourself for everything concerning the car setup. In a screen with 25 settings, they will explain 5, there is a tooltip that says you can ask your engineer for help but there is no actual button to do that (something else that was intended but never made it into the game?) and there are no "decent-but-not-perfect" presets to choose from. So enjoy figuring out what every one of those settings does (or try the default setup and wonder why everyone is so much faster...) and even do test laps to calculate your fuel usage because the default setup has you race with a full tank (which can be as much as four times the needed fuel...)

For what it's worth, I play racing games like this somewhat seriously and always stick to the bumper cam. I really dislike cockpit views because in most games that has only 1/3 to half of the screen filled with the actual road. When I'm driving IRL, my vision focusses on the road not on my steering wheel and dashboard.

I backed this game when it went public I think and I played it for about 2 hours (according to steam) since then.

I really just wish it had more street cars. If I wanted race cars and legit racing experience then I'd play iRacing..

I'll probably fire it back up today and mess with again. Probably looks and feels great but I already knew that.

If these guys can successfully crowd-fund a nice looking racing game complete with real-car licensing, there is no reason why we must continue to suffer without a new Burnout-style game with fake cars going fast and getting smashed all to hell.

Personally, I only like arcade-style racing games with fake cars that can be damaged in spectacular ways.

Criterion's first NFS game was pretty good, but really all I want is another Burnout game. EA continues to crush my dreams. It has been VERY long time since we have had a Burnout title, and even longer since we have had a GOOD one.

I am in the minority that did not like Paradise. I want a focused racer, not an open-world car game that occasionally has races (provided I trek all the way to a particular intersection to launch a specific race).

I also want a defined course with shortcuts here and there, not dropped into a city and it be totally left to me to decide when to turn (at 200+mph while weaving through traffic/other players) instead of having arrows on the screen.

Even Crash Mode in paradise was bad. Nothing but barrel-rolling. They could have picked ANY prior Burnout game's Crash mode and been fine, but they reinvented Crash into something lame.

A crowd-funded successor to Burnout Revenge is what the world needs right now.

I wonder if their capture setup or display is messing up their ability to play racing games. Playing a racing game on a lagged display is like driving drunk.
