Quick Look: Road Show: Yar's Revenge

Controls: Dual stick rail shooter. Yuck.
Conversation: Awkward. Meh.
Game: Slow and boring. Uff.
 
Today is not the shining moment for the Giant Bomb. Ryan did a good attempt though.

music is lame - almost fell asleep

If you're going to have dialog during play for a game like this, it needs to be voiced. I am not going to be reading ANYTHING while I have to shoot at enemies. Period.

The boss was pretty slow, and probably needed some different levels. It's always more interesting when bosses lose hulls to reveal different firing systems underneath, and get different movement patterns.

I wish they would give Panzer Dragoon this treatment.
 
We could use a Panzer Dragoon with next gen graphics.

This looks like shit. A bad rail shooter from a bad choice to remake.

While the game looks good esp. with the world's look, it could have been called something like 'General Wiggins quest for the Ruby Thorax' or something along those lines. Agreed with Ryan yes some Atari IPs should be brought back but why this? There's other good IP stories to go with over this, though if they're dipping in this bizarre part of Atari 2600 games it seems the next thing they are going to do is a PSN/XBLA remake of the E.T. 2600 game.
 
I'm still waiting for a a first person mode of Mappy with the same visual choices as Pacman Championship DX (yes not Atari but you get the point on being creative as well as making something people will want to play, with this Yar's Revenge I don't feel it will grab too many people).

Man, everyone's just shitting all over this game in the comments. I don't know, not a big fan of rail shooters but it looks pretty cool.

Ew, gringo anime. This game needs 1000% more bullethell. There's not much going on at all. Hell, level 1 of Gummi Ships has like 3 times as much shit going on.

...still can't care after 12 minutes. Sorry.

Looks kind of interesting, reminds me of the Panzer Dragoon games.

This game makes me think of Global Agenda, if Global Agenda was a dual stick shooter.
 
So far I feel like watching it for 18 minutes was about all I need from this game.

Looks neat, but man does that reticle move fast.

i like a good rail shooter, but I need to see more, so far this looks way too bland and slow.
 
Panzer Dragoon Saga set the bar for rail shooters, so far nothing has come close.

I REALLY hate the fact that this guy keeps saying "re-image" instead of "re-imagine". So much fail is in this video. 

 Edit: I have to say, though, it looks good for what it is. I kinda enjoy the strange syntaxes and names in the dialog. The main character never says "I" or "you". She refers to herself as "this-one" when talking to the "Bar Yargler". I don't know why, but I really like that. "

I absolutly love the artstyle, would love to see a RPG in that world. Sadly the game itself is nothing for me.

Wow that game looks incredibly lacking. It's just very plain and without any high points or low points. It's just a bunch of samey shooting.

Really diggin the art style here. Not so sure how long the actual gameplay could keep my attention, though.

Looks decent but this is really not my genre. 
Recent Game (tm) or Retro Gamer had an article from the original dev and he was not too hyped about this game.

Yars deserved better.  The original had some neat and very different gameplay elements.  They "re-imaged" that into a boring rail shooter.  I am sad.  The level geometry they demo'ed look very cool though.  I'd like to see a 3D platformer done up in that style.

Looks pretty great. It's been way too long since we've had a new Panzer Dragoon game. I think I'll go pop in Orta later...
