Quick Look: Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth

At about 24 minutes in they talk about the absence of any other aliens being present. That's not strictly true, I had a quest line where some other random group had also made planet-fall and wanted to setup a station near me. There's a series of quest decisions that lead into a full chain of events.

Not exactly deep storyline or anything but interesting enough.

This seems interesting.

It's a better initial release than Civ 5 or Civ 4, but it doesn't hold a candle to SMAC. Can't fault the game for that, but since it's clear that's what they were going for it's a little sad.

Man, I miss Vinny ...

I just wish they were all under the same roof, it'd be so much better for us. We could have revolving podcast lineups, quick looks, unpro fridays etc

Much more chances for content akin to stuff like endurance run's and random side video's like Breaking Brad, Flight Club etc.

I as a subscriber have failed to see the benefit of spreading a small team across the country. I mean Vinny has basically disappeared from the site in this transition. Even when GB East get's 'up and running' it's still going to be just Vinny and Alex on their own. Patrick was great on the Pod and on streams and now all his video content minus the morning show is done on his own pretty much.

It would be better to have them all under one roof, spreading them across the country makes no sense. The benefits of having those 'extra connections' doesn't really matter to Giant Bomb as much as the content they produce (podcast,Quick looks and random games on stream) imo wouldn't and doesn't benefit from it (except maybe the odd appearance of Dave Lang).

Giant Bomb could be so much more amazing than it is.

I think I just prefer the historical basis of the typical Civ series, the future tech stuff isn't doing much for me.

Not enough to sell me on this game. As usual, I'll wait for a sale.

@gamerpigeon: it was either this or vinny leaving the site; they had no choice as he was moving anyway. Be happy he's here in any capacity.

Maybe I'm misreading that as an antagonistic tone but demanding people be happy about the very thing they are unhappy about seems kind of dickish. I've had and will continue to have faith in Vinny. The Alex and Vinny team is gelling well and they offer a different feel from the gbwest team, an effect that likely wouldn't be felt as strongly (if at all) if they were all under one roof.

Having read the review, and after watching this Quick Look, I would be interested in seeing Alex and Vinny take a look at the game, "Endless Legend". It's another 4X strategy game and from what I'm hearing is better than the new Civilization.
