Seems like this really could have used a time-freeze mechanic. I don't like the look of the split-second camera adjusting.

I agree with the couple suggestions Patrick made, with regards to the design. Having some sort of depiction on the photographs of any momentum captured seems like it would be really helpful. For example, maybe an arrow pointing in the matching direction, or throw a little motion blur on there.

The mechanic that this game is based on seems really solid, I'll probably pick it up on PSN.

I wonder why there's barely anyone complaining when Ryan spends the first 10 minutes of every quick look in the menus or when Brad fumbles at explaining mechanics instead of actually explaining them.

I've got no real problem with Patrick, but I have learned that I probably won't like the games he tends to write about and QL.

Not a slight against him, really. Knowing how your tastes line up with a given reviewer is just logic.

I'm tired of puzzle platformers. I still think the 2D sprite based game still has life though. Action games like Castle Crashers tend to stay fun.

And yeah, I fucking hate playing games with keyboards. Maybe all the PC hardcore guys who started out with Doom back in the 90s are used to it by now. But my family never had a PC strong enough for gaming when I was a kid.

Keyboards aren't even that hot for typing. The reason the letters are so scrambled is because the keyboard was DESIGNED to be difficult to learn. They could have made the home row all vowels or something.

Well that's a pretty stupid thing to say. I'm going to assume you're referring to QWERTY keyboards since that is still the standard. The QWERTY keyboard was designed so that mechanical typewriters would jam less often. Why the hell would someone patent something that was needlessly designed to be a pain in the ass?

There are plenty of complaints when that stuff happens, but those guys are better because they can make it sound casual, and conversational.

Patrick's tone tends to sound like he's giving a lecture.. every Quick Look becomes the oral history of video games and his experiences with them. He can get annoying, if you really want me to boil it down.

That's why I use Dvorak. The home row is aoeuidhtns. The underlined characters are where the little bumps on the home row are (f and j in QWERTY).

well, since we're already bitching about this: I usually don't like patrick's QLs for the same reason I don't like QL EX's. they're clinical and boring, more of a prolonged tutorial than a "let's play"-type video. all the mechanical minutia just drags; we don't need every system explained to us in excruciating detail, gameplay speaks for itself in most cases.

also, PSA to all indie developers: team up with an indie composer or find some royalty-free music, stop forcing your bedroom guitar instrumentals on us, please.

Well if you know that it's designed so that typewriters would am less often you should know that he's right, even if his wording is a bit off. The QWERTY layout was indeed designed so that mechanical typewriters would jam less often. Their jam-solution? Put the keys in, or at least was considered, the most counter-intuitive design so that the typist physically took longer to type so that it would jam less (that and certain keys placed away from each other). It's not necessarily difficult to learn as there are obviously tons of people who type without ever looking at the keyboard, but it is designed to be slower than what it should physically take.

And 'why the hell would someone patent something that was needlessly designed to be a pain in the ass?' Isn't there like a million examples of that in everyday life with anything to do with Windows, iTunes, etc?
