"Issac Newton is the deadliest son of bitch in space!"

If you've played ME2 you should know that quote.

That quote in ME2 was regarding railguns firing projectiles 1.3% of the speed of light though (around 3000km/s), which obviously causes ridiculous kinetic energy to be released when they hit something (also, at those speeds I don't think just Newtonian physics, as per ME2, would be enough, wouldn't relativity have to be taken into account there?). The depiction in SOL: Exodus (and Battlestar Galactica, which SOL was obviously inspired by) rather seems like something in the vein of current day automatic cannons, like the one in the A-10, which are fired at way below sub-light speeds. You couldn't really get much sense of scale in SOL, but considering how much you had to lead the target, the bullets probably weren't all that much faster than what we use today (the avenger rotary cannon apparently fires projectiles at 1km/s, without atmosphere/air drag to worry about I'm sure a space based autocannon could get them to much higher velocities, but probably not anywhere close to the velocity mentioned in ME2).

Best random in-game quote I've ever heard. I wonder if they can top it in ME3.

Sigh why do these types of games completely ignore basic laws of physics concerning speed vs. acceleration mechanics when flying in space.

Completely breaks any sense of immersion immediately.

It's not an issue of game vs. simulation. It's a question of basic logic.

Like making a racing game where cars have no inertia and can do a 90 degree turn on a dime. Or a flight game where the plane can flip a bitch and start instantly flying in the oposite direction.

There's not supposed to be 100% logic when you're dealing with fictional space combat in the far future. Not sure what you're expecting. I own the game and its fun, which to me is what matters most.

Actually, it's rare that they don't these days, SOL: Exodus kind of tries to do the "WW II dogfights in space" thing that Wing Commander and Star Wars did, but most space sims that have been released in the past decade (while few) are more of spiritual successors to the Elite series of games, and like that franchise did, use newtonian physics.

Gameplay wise this is pretty close to Wing Commander, but no, not the story-telling. Wing Commander pretty much did the Bioware thing before Bioware was a thing, not sure Freespace is an appropriate comparison either, but I suppose SOL is closer to that, but even Freespace did have cutscenes and stuff, SOL pretty much tells all it's story as in-mission dialogue.

I am not arguing someone elses like/dislike for the game. Simply stating what completely breaks it for me.

For me asking for actual speed and acceleration to behave according to standard laws of physics is like asking gravity to work. It's not a requirement of 100% logic it's a requirement of basic logic, like asking bullets to travel in the general direction you shot a gun and not do pirouettes. I wouldn't play a game where a plane flies like a helicopter or visa versa, same here.

Was getting kind of frustrated with Dave as he kept saying he couldn't find the big ships - the radar clearly showed where they were in relation to him, and the red dots had arrows on them pointing up or down to let him know if they were above or below him in that direction.

Aside from that, good QL. The game itself looks mad tedious and plain, but oh well.

Are you aware that a Freelancer 2 was in development for Xbox 360, at one point?

Who knows if it would've compared to Freelancer, but it dying along with Digital Anvil is a bummer, regardless.

If you're curious, here's some more info on the late Project Lonestar.

So I can relate to Vinny more: I am sceptic and a bit of an angry teddy bear when I am sick, and when I get congested I get a deep sexy voice... which makes me use it more... which makes me lose it. That is what I learned from this QL.
