Quick Look: Stellaris

I have to imagine this is Austins theme for playing this game

Very cool quick look guys. I feel like Alex's neat ideas for the species' trait kinda got squeezed out by the goofy Batman roleplaying though.

Edit* About 27 minutes in I kinda come around on the Batman stuff once you see the leader's traits.

I had no idea this game existed before this video but now I can't wait to play it. I'm kind of glad I didn't know about it because if I did, the wait would have killed me.

Ended up buying this a bit after the stream (the first I ever heard of it, too) and oh god the wait is killing me.

It's basically a live action prelude to Warhammer 40k. Take a bunch of scientists in space screaming, then spray blood over them.

Never really played a 4X game, this looks so overwhelming but cool. I'd be lost within minutes.

I've never played a grand strategy game before but this has got me interested. I'd really enjoy watching Austin play this game some more.

I also hate ship builders (and unit builders) in these games. Is there any way to automatically generate them?

This is the first quick look in ages that I've gone into knowing nothing about the product and left with the product bought and installing in my steam account. Looks really good.

Just started playing this, and uh oh. I may get in deeper than I did Crusader Kings II, which I've played about 55 hours of.

It's kind of a wave of information when you first start, but if you only pay attention to their tutorial stuff, it's actually really easy to understand.

I would love to see a premium series on this!

This reminds me way too much of Endless Space. So much so that it almost seems like the same game with slightly different mechanics in some spots. Except that Endless Space was turn based.

Bought this after @austin_walker's Beastcast chat and this Quicklook. My first 4x / grand strategy game. I played this for 13 hours straight and missed dinner with my kids. Thanks?

This looks interesting, but everything was happening and being explained so fast it felt overwhelming even though they had an hour and 40 minutes to go through it. Much like other Paradox games, it seems too complicated and probably has a steep learning curve.

This game is insane. It's crazy to think, for me, that 4x enthusiasts like Austin would see this as sort of "bare."

It definitely seems far less complex than most other games of this ilk I've played. Not necessarily a bad thing though: Civilization V is also pretty simple but that game is still fantastic.

To Paradox's credit it doesn't seem like a copy. Taking the style of their previous games and expanding it to a 4x space game seems like it would naturally be pretty close to Endless Space. Besides, Endless Space has terrible combat. At least here they just copied Sins of a Solar Empire.

Well, just my luck that this comes out just when I'm unable to buy it. Still, this release combined with the Nioh alpha (which was great) have got me playing Shogun 2 TW, which is also pretty good.

As soon as I can jump on this, though, I am absolutely going to. Maybe some Imperium of Man ship designs will be out by then.

And after my first five hours with the game it might be the most thrillingly addictive game I've played in years. A clear case for how great/useful quick looks can be!

Thanks @austin_walker. Watched this QL after work a couple nights ago. Bought, Installed and was just going to check it out and go to bed because I had an AWS Cert. Test the next day. Before I knew it the sun was coming up. I got like 3 hours of sleep but still passed. This game may have to get uninstalled because I could see this becoming a problem for me. I'm very wary of venturing into MP because I may fall into a hole I will never get out of. But loving almost everything about it. Hit a point where I was powerful enough none of the locals were really messing with me and the only other threat was on the other side of the Galaxy. At that point it was basically a meter watching game while I Queued up buildings on all my planets and expanded my tech.

Man this game is soooo good.

The soundtrack has a VNV Nation vibe to it I really like.

I completely bounced off CKII and EU every time I've attempted them. I'm freaking hooked on this game, though. I can't tell if it's just because it has a sci-fi bent to it or if it's actually a more accessible game.

We never got to see the Robin alien race. :-/ Excellent quick look. I was thinking about skipping this one based on some negative reviews on Steam, but after going through this Quick Look, the game looks very well worth having & playing. They really did a great job with it. I didn't think it work as a non turn-based game either, but it looks very playable.

Btw, where are the damn Hexagons??? This is a space game after all!
