I have to admit, watching a match replay of Tokido vs Daigo on Xbox Live while commenting on how Japanese players don't play fighting games on Xbox Live is kind of hilarious.

I thought so, too :>

Problem with competitive game is that the newest version is where most people are. If you just want to play around a bit it's definately a really good game for a great price, but for competition, you should get AE.

edit: Oh and it's also available as DLC for Super.

Yeah, I really only plan to mess around with my friends, so I'll probably just end up getting regular SSF4.

Oh Jeff, fighting games never went away... You did. And as long as there are fighting games, there will be a fighting game community. But I agree, if Evil Ryu and a dark blue Akuma are all that they are adding, then they should just take a break and do something else for a bit.

I don't see what's so masterful about throwing endless projectiles and cornering people: yes I know: "If the game let's you do it..." Well the game shouldn't let you do it: High level play becomes nothing more than who can be the cheapest; it's like Mortal Kombat but without the fatalities.

What I want: Street Fighter Alpha 2 part 2.

They spend half the video talking about how impenetrable this scene is and hey look, a billion snotty comments from fighting game fans totally perplexed and indignant that someone might not know some specific players by name.

I dunno why they keep saying pros don't play on Xbox.  Most pros I can think of play exclusively on Xbox, as it doesn't really matter controller wise since MadCatz sticks are cross platform.

All they know about pro players is that they're Japanese, and the 360 isn't popular in Japan so it's reasonable to assume they wouldn't build a community around it.

The fact that you discovered fighting games during the "dead period" kind of voids your statement. It's not that they went away, it's that if you used to play them, you'd realize they're not very innovative. That's why I'm guessing alot of people have already lost interest in MK and SSFIV.

I can relate on this.  Though there was a time when I thought Clay Fighter and Primal Rage were amazing - apparently they're not?
I'm just not a fighting game person, I guess.  Heck, I've been playing Mortal Kombat's story on "beginner" difficulty and still get a decent challenge from it occasionally.

Your guys' comments on the current fighting game community are pretty spot-on. I love Street Fighter despite not being an expert Street Fighter player. I don't go to tournaments; I know I'm not great. But it's fun. A lot of that top-tier play is hampered by negativity, bitching about this or that update that affects them on a negligible level and that someone like me barely even notices. Whiskey Media isn't the biggest place for Super Smash Bros., but the fighting game community yelled at each other about Brawl for a whole year until it was dropped completely.

Both Brawl and SSFIVAE are lovely games millions enjoy, and whether or not the balance is perfect doesn't matter when you're having fun.

I'm not sure if either Jeff or Brad knows this but that one replay they watched with gameinn and tokido77 were Daigo and Tokido respectively.  And these guys are probably considered one of the best Ryu's and Akuma's out there.  Amazing how they chose a random replay and they got two of the best in the world.

Things Jeff is wrong about:
*360 version is the preferred version for Japanese players in Japan, not PS3 Jeff.
* Your replay of Tokido77 and gameinn are the two BEST players. Tokido and Daigo.

Good quick look though. The community is salty about Yun being over powered since he's safe on almost anything he commits himself too and his options when he applies pressure make it hard to guess what he will do.

Thanks for the QL, guys! This confirmed what I thought all along; this update is totally negligible. I mean, Yun and Yang, plus weird versions of Ryu? Feh. Rebalancing? Feh.

Super Street Fighter was a true update. This is just ...unnecessary. At least Capcom did the right thing and offered it as DLC. But it's totally worth passing up in my eyes. Thanks for the look :)

Jeff is wrong about the best playing on arcade only or PS3. Just check the 360 leaderboards for replays from the likes of Daigo "The Beast".

edit: btw that gameinn guy IS Daigo.

he isnt wrong pal omega, chances are diago is on the ps3 leaderboardsanyway! and ONE PERSON does not make a good argument for better players play on 360.

Of course. What I meant was that the "dead period" might have been there for people who have played fighting games from the very beginning, or near it. But of course it's Jeff's own fighting game down-time and not the genre's.
