Quick Look: The Escapists 2

This game seems interesting, but I'm so risk averse that I think I would be bad at it.

Dan is going to escape prison someday.

Vinny really likes that reference to Shawshank Redemption haha.

I'd love to see this on a playdate. I think this is another one of those games where Dan has a weird self imposed mental block on the early systems, with Vinny coaching him it could be really great.

Is the sequel like the original where the console versions are way better than the PC version because they screwed up the PC UI?

Also this game is the worst rep4eeentstion of prison where the inmates can do whatever they want whenever they want. Not a great game.

Man, those prison cells in game are more spacious than some studio apartments I've lived in.

Also, this game series looks fun in a cartoony sort of way -- the art and dialogue remind me of the "Infectonator" flash-games -- but the fact that the dev is already selling DLC prison-maps raise a big ol' red flag for me.

Like with taking on a wolf, Dan will eventually come to realize that he cannot actually break out of jail. If Dan could break free from a prison then what would be the point of prisons?

To be fair, he actually did put me off in the very beginning of his GB career. But especially ever since he has come out to the East coast, he just makes me laugh. 9/10ths of what he says and does is meant to be comedic. The trolling has become real minimal. And more obvious.

And I do think the guy has some sense of realities. And perhaps that's why he, like I am, is into 'not real' video games. After all, this doesn't look like 'Prison Escape Sim' to me.

This should be a new series, since Dan did say he thinks he could escape from prison.

I was interested in this since I liked the first one but reading people's reviews it seems it's still full of bugs.

Based on the comments, now I want to know how many forum users have been to prison or jail.

The music reminds me of Theme Hospital. I like it!

@heatdrive88: It's very funny, and it's strange that people can constantly talk down to and insult Dan in these comment sections, get very personal and rude, and get no moderation, but if you say something mean about Brad, god forbid.

That's not true at all. Brad has received his share of opinions from users, both in the vein of criticism and overblown haters, Go back and look at any comments for Breaking Brad videos, or criticisms of Brad falling asleep in streams. I would say this fairly (and unfairly) goes for all of the GB crew.

Also consider that "trolling" or pranking humor isn't funny for everyone; and getting called "babies" or "over-sensitive" in a derogative manner by others because we express disinterest in Dan's attempts at "humor"? That is plainly put, really shitty.

Like Gob Bluth, Dan is in prison voluntarily, in an attempt to see if he could break out.

Even if its a bit, I'm sure Dan believes he can escape prison.

The biggest problem I had with the original Escapists was their total failure to successfully gamify the leveling component of this game. "Reading" and "Exercise" fucking sucked. Reading was literally activating the book with a button press, and waiting for a meter to fill, over the course of a couple of seconds. Repeat. I think I remember jobs being similarly shitty. Oh and guess what! If you stop reading or exercising, your levels drop again.

The rest of the game was kinda cool, if unnecessarily inscrutable, but I'm bummed they didn't seem to learn a whole lot about how to make the (arbitrarily) necessary parts of this game fun. They should have just omitted the intelligence and strength levels entirely. I don't want to spend time in a game pressing a button and watching a meter fill for minutes at a time.
