I just beat it and I love that it's a reasonable length. Also, the pacing is much better. It has highs and lows, but unlike 4, I think this one escalates the action much better. As usual, the characters are all great as well.

Like 4, it also has a really cool feature in the way that you can jump into any Encounter you've done after beating them. A fun-time way to play around with the camera.

@bloody_skirmish: It's because in comparison to other 3rd person games - uncharted (and TLoU) have never had as good shooting mechanics as its peers - that's not to say they're not amazing games that do amazing things, but, especially on hardest difficulties, it feels like the mechanics are working against you which, combined with the low health etc, doesn't make for a fun time.

Well I don't know what games you've been playing, but I'd take the third person shooting in Uncharted over those "other third person games" any day of the week. I rathchet up the difficulty as much as possible, flip around, jump from place to place, blindfire, snipe, throw timed grenades to panic the enemy and cover my exit out of cover, and overall have a blast. I love the agility and mechanics in these games, and will take them over wearing a car, and being able to roll once every second and a half.

@bloody_skirmish: @anund: I was addressing the OP's point that they didn't understand why many critique the shooting mechanics of the game. I'm just giving my experience (as have you both). I've beaten the first 3 games on crushing, but it's never felt like it was a fair fight compared to other 3rd-person games like Gears, MGSV, SOCOM etc which seem to have much more refined shooting mechanics that work with you and not against you. Uncharted by comparison, feels more sluggish - everything feels like there's a slight delay (reminds me of GTA's shooting). They are still fine games, but everything has flaws, and it's okay to accept them and still enjoy them.

Jeff has always been more mechanically-focused of the crew so I tend to take his input with extra attention.

That was my point though. You weren't giving "your experience", you were stating it as if it was undeniable fact. As for Jeff... The man likes the combat in Gears of War, a game with shooting so terrible and enemies so bullet spongy it's not even funny. That, to me, undermines his opinion on Uncharted's shooting quite a bit. It's obviously OK for him not to like it, but I can't accept that his opinion on the matter is more important than anyone else's.

If you want to argue Metal Gear V has better shooting than Uncharted, I am completely with you however. But that part of that game was amazing.

@anund: Merely just stating what a common complaint is. As for the gears thing I find it superior but I do agree the bullet spongy enemies are a down point but that's not a mechanical issue, that's an enemy design issue. Kind of extreme to write off his entire input based on that disagreement but hey - opinions.

I haven't played this yet, but from judging from this quick look, I totally agree with Brad that this might stand up with 2 and 4. 2 is still my favorite of the series. Also, I guess everyone is just choosing to ignore Golden Abyss, the Vita Uncharted game? lol

I'm not using it to write off his entire input, I am using it to discredit his position as an "expert".

Would you say it's the best Tomb Raider game?

@pxbart: "Exactly what "Tomb Raider with a Dude" needed: a British female lead :-p"

?

Chloe is half Indian, half Austrailian and Nadine Ross is South African. Chloe does have the same "wringing out her ponytail" animation as Lara Croft though.

But yes, I was also worried about being all Uncharted out after finishing 4 but the condensed nature of this game keeps it flowing nicely.

You're absolutely right. Been a while since I played Uncharted 2, and completely forgot about Chloe's heritage, and assumed the accent was British.

@chillicothe: It doesn't help that help that Claudia Black never attempts shifting her voice.

That said - a bit of familiarity with British Colonial accents can help. Chloe is ANZAC while Nadine is South African.

I really need to play Uncharted. I have 4 but none of the other ones. Can I start with 4 if I'm not too worried about story?

@dichemstys: The story is honestly the main point of the series. The shooting and gameplay in 1-3 are alright to pretty good (with Uncharted 4 having the best shooting) but the whole point is the story and the journey of the characters.

If you enjoy games with good well written characters then I recommend you start from 1 and play them in release order (1, 2, 3, 4). Just playing 4 without the others won't be nearly as good or satisfying.

Easily the most time and fun I've spent in gaming has been the co op modes from UC3 onwards, I hate competitive multiplayer but teaming up with my friend and completing the different challenges and waves has been so full of great stories and memories. I know some find the shooting mechanics poor, I don't, and I also think the AI of the enemies is remarkably well done. Each to their own but I love it.

I read Brads review and got the itch to get this, and the QL really cooled me off on it. Weirdly enough I actually really enjoyed UC4, probably the most of all the UC games I've played so it's not like I'm coming into the DLC cold or anything. When I read it was shorter and more streamlined I thought thats awesome.. but man this open world area is exactly what I thought Uncharted 4 needed less of. The big tombs and spectacular set pieces is what I enjoy about this franchise. Driving a cheap from tower to tower, doing some light puzzle and fighting a bunch of doods seems tedious.

@mmarsu: Nadine looks like she did in 4. Do you mean Chloe? She definitely looks different.

I had the same thought. I wonder if they changed her character model to one more reflective of being half Indian. (Did 'Uncharted 2' or 3 establish that she was half Indian/half Australian? I just remember thinking in those games that she was just a tan Aussie.)
