Technically, he's still right. This isn't another Windjammers, it's a remake remaster/emulation of the same game.

I feel like calling it a remake is a stretch. I still see it as a emulation job but with added functionality that judging by the video doesn't seem to work properly.

Yeah I said remake but I meant remaster. It's definitely more like emulation.

Hoo boy was that rough, I couldn't even make it through to the end! Was Vinny in a cast or something? He just kept lobbing it back in a straight line over and over again...

Watching this game never actually interested me in any of their vids but I will give it one last shot with this quick look and see what this is.

Are the shadows under their feet supposed to be constantly blinking in and out of existence? Cause that's rough to look at.

I wonder how all those devs who 5ried to recreate windjamMera feel considering there was several projects including that one with loot boxes that were probably quickly forgotten once the real game was rereleased. Also windjammer needs something else to make it more en4ertaining to watch otherwise it's just colorful pong with a wacky ball. Maybe the fortnite team can incorporate windjammers into that fucking mess.

I find it weird that they would limit this game to just PS4 and Vita. It's a pretty niche game so i don't see a lot of copies sold. But hey maybe Sony offered enough money that they don't need to worry about getting their money back from it.

It's strange seeing them playing "Windjammers" without hearing the "click click click" of the buttons on Jeff's NeoGeo joysticks.

What software does gb use to stream live content between the east and west studios? I'm just wondering if there is anything out there I can use in the same way that Jeff is able to see live content from the GBEast guys without any delay.

@steveurkel: The "Windjammer's Game with Loot boxes" is Disc Jam, and really, I can't see the NeoGeo Windjammers re-release affecting the state of that game at all (especially in the janky state this version of Windjammers seems to be in). There's much that separates them ; 3D versus 2D, customization of character's move sets versus set characters, the aforementioned loot drops versus...nothing, and frequent updates and regular community-run tournaments versus barely-functioning online play (for now).

Really, the only thing Windjammers has over Disc Jam (aside from the latter being a PS4 exclusive) is multiple arenas and "nostalgia". I'm actually of an opinion that, had this Windjammers port been released before other spiritual successors, it would have been received better.

Why didn't they just do shareplay so that Jeff could play with them?

Man, I hope the west coast fixes their internet soon.

@dasakamov: I think the thing Windjammers has over Disc Jam is it feels miles better to play. I feel they're barely in the same ballpark in that regard. And Im not even speaking from a place of nostalgia. I played all those clones/spiritual succesors before ever having touched the original.

Its the major problem I have with all the spiritual succesors to windjammers that have come out, none of them feel that good/gratifying to play.

I wondered if actual windjammers would be better or if it just wasnt for me and having finally played the real deal.......Hell Yes....I could've noticed it earlier just seeing GB stream windjammers but I noticed while playing that I think its mostly because of the audio-visual feedback you get for everything, windjammers is a masterclass in making every button press feel satisfying. It strangely reminds me of pinball in the way it gratifies by mere feel & sound.

It really is a bummer that the online/surrounding features arent better for windjammers.

I'd say I actually wouldn't have realised how good real windjammers is if I hadn' t seen it done worse a half dozen times.

@lestephan: I suppose we'll have to hope that both Windjammers and its "spiritual successors" can co-exist in this world, then. As someone who *used* to play a lot of OG Windjammers at their local Mountain Mike's Pizza back in the day, it just feels dated coming back to it now (especially in a "new" version which doesn't look like it has a lot of "new" stuff put into it).

But I AM glad that a relatively obscure Neo-Geo board can surge to such heights of popularity, thanks mostly to the Giant Bomb crew. :)

Would it be so hard to record the other coasts audio locally to be edited in later? The shitty audio quality on the cross-coast videos really irks me.

You can tell Vinny hasn't played windjammers against Jeff for a while. Some of those matches between Jeff & Vinny are really good!

I really did too. But honestly it's happening quite often with me lately. Just hitting that time where I bring someone up to someone at work (who can be a bit younger) and they don't know it and I am TRIGGERED.

My first reaction too. I get that she may not be into videogames as much as some GB fans etc, but I thought it was a fairly well-known system?

I keep reminding myself that I'm four years older than Abby and that may play a part in the knowledge gap, but there's lots of stuff she hasn't heard of that leaves me confused.
