Playdate: Red Alert 2 (04/19/2019)

It is my third favorite C&C game after Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 1. Keep in mind I mostly played singe player. Multiplayer I think C&C3 and Generals were the ones I had the most fun with.

I enjoyed the hell out of this.

Yeah, he could have made a few fly by's to Dan's nuclear reactor. That would have set him back a lot.

Damnit... Just reinstalled Origin to play Red Alert 2............XD Great stream.

@mordja: Yep. And even vanilla out of the box you can get the Origin version running at 1080p with minor .ini tweaking. The Alt-tab issue is real, though, and the game can be finicky in general about modern video displays, so setting up a bunch of capture out of it may add... complications.

When are we announcing Mike as a New employee? :)

Red alert 2 is the best RTS ever made, and one of the best games ever made. Loved this game so much.

As much as i love C&C, i can't deal with Dan's competitive mode.

This was a really fun play-date! Best ones are always when the people playing are just having such a great time. Mostly due to their magnetism, you just can't help but get pulled along and end up smiling ear to ear.

Has @danryckert ever played through the Warcraft 3 campaign, or that of the expansion, Frozen Throne? Those are some of the best single player RTS campaigns ever, and surprisingly, they really hold up well. It ain't that hard to get 'em up and running, or even to play online multiplayer; which is kinda' nuts.

What a fantastic playdate! I know it's probably a huge pain to produce but... more of this kind of thing would be great.

Honestly, I think this is something new that I would very much enjoy if they can nail down setup and logistics: videogame matches of GB versus other folks in the industry. Vinny and Alex have proven to be great commentators, and I love this laid-back yet personal spectating approach to "e-sports".

This was great stuff. Seems like the reason Mike lost the first few rounds was his situational awareness was poor compared to Dan. Dan's first objective is to find out where he is on the map by scrolling around, then send out a scout with a bazillion waypoints to explore before radar comes online, whereas Mike was kinda turtling and focussing on his own base.

The two times Mike made an effort to find Dan's base right at the start of the game (the rush, and the harvester attacks), he won fairly easily.

Great playdate. I can only second everyone in saying: do more of these kinds of streams please.

I can't comment on the in-studio weirdness, natch, but you weren't using CNCNet, because that uses its own launcher with its own, separate executable. The UI's very different and allows for more options. Just tested it, admittedly with YR instead of base RA2 and sure enough, it lets you do stuff like select different types of renderers, turn on borderless-fullscreen, and play the game at much higher resolutions. It also made running the game on W10 completely painless, at least on a home setup.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, just want to let you know in case there ever is a next time, and to give props to the C&C community for keeping the games alive!

This was great, I want more! Very nice setup and Vinny did good as host! I love to see when the plans work and when it's all noooo this is going so bad. hahaha 2 hours went so fast.

This was a lot of fun, and I'd love to see more playdates like this in the future.
