Yeah, this always makes me want someone else on staff to also get into the game so we can get to actually hear what the story is about. As soon as a game Dan plays shows any sign of story in it, that should be a signal for the rest of the staff to consider playing it.

This video player is having nothing but issues for me on this video and on the premium videos every 3-4 seconds there's a slight stutter/hitch that makes it unwatchable.

Is this the Greta Van Fleet of Zelda games? Or was that Blossom Tales?

I never have interest in playing games that are direct copies of better games. It's just a real lack of creativity. The aesthetic isn't even unique, as it's just taken whole-cloth from Mother. It certainly looks competent, so I guess I'll give it credit for that.

He's being bad at his job when he do stuff like that. Just like with the Ace Combat QL: "- Can you explain me all this lore that the fans seems to like? - I have no idea". Start to get boring after some time.

Sweet ass full of sand edition.

Man, if Dan would just read the 2 lines of dialog he wouldn't have to spend time searching around for a quest trigger. When the lady tells you that the house is haunted, maybe there are ghosts to wack in the house!

Played a bit of this on Vita and it's very charming! FWIW, we have heaps of rats in New Zealand because they came over on British boats in the 1800s. They're a major pest, like stoats and possums, and they keep killing our native birds, so you're a hero for whacking them with a cricket bat. Also the spiders are katipo, so even they're local

I always get a bit frustrated when games try to emulate Earthbound/Mother.

Very few games have ever been successful. (Really just Toby Fox's games.) Developers will mimic the quirkiness and the art style, but ignore the most important aspect. An underlying horrific tone that occasionally drifts to the surface.

The Zelda/Metroid distinction for me has always come down to this:

When I think Arkham Asylum, I think Metroid. When I think Arkham City, I think Zelda.

Zelda implies a degree of open-ness with its exploration, free from too many constraints, and bespoke puzzle-boxes or isolated areas dedicated to a mechanic you'll discover partway through. There are danger zones that are involving, and there are safe zones where you can wander without much thought. Metroid very much wants you to see all the locked doors, there's not a lot of room to really get lost in a space, and it instead wants you to gain an intimate knowledge of how it's all connected, and it wants to bother you in the back of your head when you come across an door you can't get passed.

Zelda is about wandering out, Metroid is about digging deeper.

I love ALTTP, it's one of my favorite games ever and I fell off real quick on Blossom Tales because it felt like a carbon copy poorly done.

Yeah, 8 minutes in and all I know about the game is that there are: There are rats in the overworld, it's a lot like LTTP, there's a Galaga side-game, and Dan likes saying 'asshole'.
