Magician's Red be damned, Tam deserves to say "Ta-dah!" for that Beatles bit.

I remember chewing sugar cane when I was younger. I didn't remember Ann showing up in these later episodes.

I liked this episode a lot. No "just you wait until you see X" teasers and no overly drawn out "let's pretend to dunk on Jeff B" bits is a big plus in my book.

I think the 00's movie one of them was thinking of was Joy Ride, with Paul Walker and Steve Zahn. I remember this because Steve is definitely the most famous person from my hometown (unless you know Schwan's Ice Cream)

A common joke in the community and seemingly on the podcast about Araki forgetting stuff, but the series is actually consistent. Any "Araki forgot" moment is either explained or is internally consistent. There's a whole series on youtube from a youtuber called Hamon Beat that goes over a lot of the misconceptions.

About Strength, that stand isn't a boat. It's ability basically enhances things. So the life boat turns into a tanker, one of those children's could turn into a big monster truck etc..

My favorite part of Wheel of Fortune is the antagonist bragging about being the new protag since he beat Jotaro. Silly fun fourth wall breaks in that fight, lol.

Any Hol Horse is good Hol Horse.

Liked the episode, but I'm gonna be that guy:

- the crew seriously doubts the show's assertion about Pakistan's development during ancient times vs Japan, but it's more-or-less true. The Harappan culture in the Indus valley was one of the first big centers of civilization, existing from roughly 3000 BCE to 1000 BCE. AFAIK there's no evidence that Japan had a similar level of development during that period (people tend to forget that for most of its history, Japan was kind of a backwater, relatively speaking). As it turns out, sometimes a 90s guy who only had access to dumb books can know more about history than 4 otakus with Internet access.

- the idea that the "No Pakistanis" version of Get Back was not satire, and that the satire angle was a modern retconning, is just horseshit. It's pretty obvious from the rest of their work; especially if you look at the Commonwealth song, another outtake from the same album as Get Back, which is a direct attack on Enoch Powell and the racist anti-immigrant sentiment in the UK at the time. Plus, even if you think the Beatles were all secret racists, it's kind of ridiculous to imagine them just deciding to take a break from the counterculture and recording a rabidly racist song that would have alienated all of their (mostly young and progressive) fanbase. To be fair, it wasn't good satire, but hey, that version was scrapped for a reason.

Pretty sure the movie Tamoor was thinking of was Jeepers Creepers...

Also as someone who lived in Pakistan for a couple of years when I was a child I remember having sugar cane juice from a roadside stall whenever I accompanied my dad to their football matches, and it was always the highlight of the trip.

I had not ever looked at how many episodes remained in this season on Netflix, so I assumed given the previous seasons' lengths that we were nearing the end. I was shocked when it was mentioned in this discussion that there are nearly 50 episodes of Stardust! That's...a lot. I worry I might lose interest by then, but we'll see.

I believe Warner Bros. Japan does hold some sort of rights to JoJo.
And iirc the reason the JoJo english dub and any sort of media release took so long in the US is cause Warner Bros. held those rights. They put out an incredibly barebones DVD (no BluRay) set of the first season and the subtitles were only for the dub. It did very poorly and they sold the rights to Viz whos been producing it for years now.

@mittens:

Oh geez, you can always tell someone who doesn't know The Beatles very well when "No Pakistanis" comes up. The Beatles had literally just come back from living abroad in India and absorbing a ton of their culture and beliefs. I can totally understand how a band that was so closely tied to India would not exactly be making a ton of Pakistani fans already. Then by singing a song that Lennon was obviously crafting to be a commentary on the current British backlash against immigrants and using Pakistanis as the "main characters" so to speak, that would just make things worse. Obviously he never got the song right, because Get Back never became a song about the immigrant backlash. Those supposedly "revealing secret tapes" are recording sessions, not secret performances for some shadowy cabal of racists that gathered to hear the "real" Beatles songs, ha ha. John is literally riffing on things from the newspaper, trying to make a protest song. It never panned out.

Outside of science fiction, people don't devote their entire lives to globalist culture, marry a Japanese immigrant, and refuse to play in front of segregated crowds all to just "win over" the left so they can then play secret racists songs to them later. That's bonkers.

Remember, the Beatles were counterculture. Rock and Roll wasn't taking off to preach the things your parents were in favor of. It is admittedly hilarious that it only really takes a single generation removed from the protest and rebellion of rock music to produce intelligent young men and women that think the most popular rock band in history was just itching to jump on the establishment sentiment of bigotry. And I do love Tam, Lucy, and John but none of them can probably even remember the era when rock was a thing. It would be insane for the most popular rock band ever to be like, "Oh geez guys. Let's get grandma and grandpa conservative on our side by writing a song about those pesky immigrants stealing our jerbs!"

As to John's point about "if they don't say it's satire then it's not" (I'm paraphrasing there). That's, frankly, nonsense. They have a song called "Run for your Life" that is about an awful, controlling man telling a woman that he'll kill her if she is unfaithful. It's sung in an upbeat, poppy way. It's satire. I'm just imagining *peace and love* George Harrison telling his lovely wife Pattie Boyd that he was going to MURDER her for ditching him for Clapton. Ha ha. Peace babe, but also never leave me or I'll kill you. There's also the little tune "Happiness is a Warm Gun". The Beatles, not surprisingly, were not big gun nuts and the title of the song was supposedly taken from a line on a NRA pamphlet. But wait....if they SAID the bad thing, it must be that they BELIEVE the bad thing...right? Nah, it's satire. Trust me.

The Beatles had a ton to say about society's ills from racism to sexism. You can hate them all you want (and lots of people totally do), but they're not secret racists. Sorry.

@auspexao:

Hardcore cringe. This site has become cancel culture central. The Beatles, who were all about counter culture, especially John and George, George of which was a Hari Krishna and did work with Ravi Shankar. It's appalling these people can say this. It's the same people that say Paul is dead. Listen to magical mystery tour backwards.
