Didn't think I wanted to play Saints Row 3 again, but this video reminded me how fun it is. Shame it looks identical to the 360 version and appears to run about the same too, but this is 100% what the game has always looked and performed like outside of the PC version.

RIP Volition

The best part of this game is the story and the writing so it's a shame that didn't get a moment to shine.

Wait $40 I remember getting all 5 Saints Row games on Steam for $20 during a sale. I just looked and the full package version is $15 on Steam plus this looks worse then it did on 360. I loaded up the game on pc and it sill looks great at 3840 x 2160 with 32x AA on and doesn't drop a single frame not to mention all the mods even one that removes the mosaic. And wow what a bad way of showing this game off.

Wish this ran better, but it's good enough that I'm going to buy it. One of my favorite games of all time.

Just checked and SR3 is backwards comp on the XB1 so I may dig out my disc and give it a whirl. If they ever lack ideas for features they should have Abby play the Saints Row games with Alex and see what she thinks. I remember liking the first SR game more than Dan/Alex seem to have.

Kinda weird that they chose to port only the Third Saints Row game. Is this a implicit admission that SR:IV and SR: We're-Not-Going-to-Call-It-Saint's-Row-Five-But-It-Totally-Is weren't really satisfactory in terms of total sales?

i liked the customisation better in 4, but this game was really great too.

I'll say Saints Row 3 and Sleeping Dogs are the best GTA games ever made.

I'm currently replaying through Saints Row 4, and while at release I felt disappointed with it... I'm actually having a much better time this go around. I wonder if it had to do with how soon after 3 it released and how the side content was handled. I'm about 5 hours into the game and have more than half of the city hacked.

not really appreciating the snarky 'actresssss...' remark about Sasha Grey from Abby. I think it's very sad that people automatically condemn whatever she does because of her past. I think she acts well. Also she had a cool noise band for a while. She's A-ok in my book and yes I'd give my left nut for one night with her, and if people weren't so stuck up, so would they...

I played this again half a year ago in co-op, because a friend of mine had never tried it. Can confirm, the game still holds up. That said, unless you really, really need to play it on the Switch, the game is 10 bucks on Steam and runs and looks a lot better.

Not that Saint's Row is a masterclass in writing or anything, but saying that it absolutely does not matter if you've played the other games is pushing it. They do some good stuff with Shaundi and Pierce over the course of the series and SR4 is a giant, warm, cuddly send-off to this universe in a way that's not entirely unlike MGS4 (except good).

Edit: Also Keith David plays Keith David but Keith David also plays Julius Little, the leader of the original Saint's gang. They have fun with this in SR4, I believe.

Edit edit: Abby if you're reading this, it's not "le random xD" humour or even close to it. The game does a pretty good job of playing off of expectations and handles its referential humour really well, sticking with mostly late-90's to early-00's culture. It's farcicle, but not in a wink-wink-nudge-nudge-do-you-get-it way; it makes jokes at a pretty good clip and plays itself straight, which is the key to enjoyable camp.

@pilgrimm1981: Agreed -- unfortunately, there's a lot of "but adult film stars aren't REAL people" narrative built into today's society at large. There was an interview with Sasha Grey in LA Weekly a couple years ago; it showcases how intelligent and driven she is, and best of luck to her in whatever she does.

I like both games but I'm personally glad Skyrim went over this in GOTY. I'm extra sure of that knowing just how much better of a game part 4 turns out to be. The comedic beats of The Third are really good, arguably better than its sequel but it does rub me the wrong way when certain members of this staff only seem care about story and character in the most kitchy and ironic of circumstances.

@dasakamov: @pilgrimm1981: I know this kind attitude is present a lot and it is a bummer but on the other hand her performance in this game is...not all that good? So maybe the latter issue is more relevant to the comments made here.

Amazing game, but this version runs like total shit. Anyone interested should grab it on PC where it's frequently super cheap.

I played this way back when it came out and I enjoyed it then (though I wouldn't have even put it in the top 10 of 2011). I felt like I was up for a replay earlier this year and, er, yeah, it doesn't really hold up. It's worth playing if you like the game's sense of humor but otherwise there is pretty much nothing here that works well enough to make it worth playing in 2019.

SRIV's gunplay is still terrible but the focus on being the best Crackdown game ever released means that I think it actually is worth playing outside of the sense of humor, but I don't know how much you'll get out of that game's story if you haven't played the third one.

In any case, I know the PC versions of both games don't have high system requirements and they do run very well, so before buying this version I'd check and see if your PC will run the game. If not, see if the Xbox One version is backwards compatible, especially if you have an X.

EDIT: But watching this does make me want to play it again...

Yikes this port seems terrible. Between the shoddy nature of the port and the shoddy nature of the publisher, I think I’ll skip this one.

Shame though, I love SR3.

I don't think anyone should necessarily buy THIS version when the PC release is probably 5 dollars every other month at this point but it's still a great game.

Saints Row: The Third is excellent fun, and the highlight of the Saints Row series. But this Switch version definitely isn't the best way to play it, given the graphical and framerate issues. Also, the complete PC version is only £10.99 on Steam and regularly discounted. I'm still hoping Volition will be allowed to make a proper "Saint's Rows Fifth", because 4 was alright but not as enjoyable as 3.

They did an absolutely horrible job showing this game off but I guess enough people have played it so far to know what it's about. Maybe if Alex was driving the QL it would have a bit more structure. I normally wouldn't care about the guys goofing off in a game but Abby seemed genuinely lost most of the time as Dan just did random stuff.

My guess is that since SR4 only just *barely* ran properly on the PS2 and Xbox 360, it probably would not be able to run on the Switch without massive changes in quality.

This *is* Dan, the guy who cannot bring himself to properly acknowledge that the WWE is a horrible company run by truly horrible people because "nostalgia" or whatever.

As I understand it, most of the core creative team at Volition left after Gat Out of Hell, so a 5th Saint's game might not really be that great of Agents of Mayhem is any indication of where Volition is at now.
