Steal My Sunshine: Episode 18

This series was great, now do it with a good mario game, but i guess everyone but dan hating it is part of what made it great.

I mean this sincerely: this series helped provide me with a lot of relief as I was student teaching this past fall. Extremely good escape material. Thanks Beast Crew.

This series was an absolute treat to come home to nearly every week. So much fun, so much "wtf" audibly coming from me and you guys, so much Dan... Much, much Dan.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next series you guys cook up because while Sunshine provided the backdrop, you guys all together usually makes for some Grade A goof-'em-ups.

I think this is a lot easier to play alone than with switching between 4 people, but it's definitely one of the least polished Mario games.

Man that ending was so free of conflict. No white gumball bullshittery, Dan cleaning up and winning it all and promising everyone a beer. So wholesome. I half expected Abby or Vinny to bet their entire cup near the end.

Fantastic series. I look forward to the next one.

Laughed my ass off plenty though. Made for a good "podcast".

Please continue the "pass the controller around" format for another game. Preferably a 3D platformer.

I also liked someone's idea of co-oping 3D World.

This was definitely the most enjoyable series to watch from the East Coast office. I would rank it next to Shenmue and KSP (haven't seen Yakuza).

Looking forward to more shenanigans this year hopefully! I love how these series come out of nowhere and entertain us for months and months!

I hate to be negative, but this has been the least enjoyable series I've watched so far. It seems like everyone except for maybe Dan is just terrible at 3D platformers. Simple concepts like the fact that sliding into a jump is much faster than bouncing during a slide, or reverse jumping into a wall jump into a hover, or the fact that you can't grab onto ledges until you stop hovering, all seem to be impossible for them to grasp. This would actually all be fine if at the end of the day they just realized they were bad at it and didn't blame the game for it.

Great way to encapsulate the ending; I totally agree. Dan offering beers with his winnings made me feel all happy: he's absolutely one of my favorites because of how effortlessly thoughtful he can be at the right time.

Glad this was one of Abby's first features too! She has great synergy with the rest of the crew, can't wait for more Exquisite Corps if it ever returns.

Fun series, looking forward to see what they do next.

This was great fun! I would love a 4 person co-op series in a few months, but can't think of anything besides Four Swords.

After all the bullshit that happened to Dan on that first level in this video, I love that Abby was the one to get the shine, she wins this feature for that.

Do you think this series would have worked in the slightest if they were all really good at the game? I would be unbelievably bored by that. I love human error, jitters, mind fogs, overconfidence followed by dumb failure, glitches, monstrous camera control, overthinking simple platforming sections, and all that multiplied five-fold by on-camera performance anxiety. It's easy to sit and watch and moan, but what's even easier is to stop watching when you can't take average or below-average gaming performances.

You seem to hone your negativity and direct it, so I don't believe you when you say you hate to be negative. I would guess you don't think you're being rude, but I think you are. Have you watched every single episode even though it clearly leaves a bitter taste in your mouth? I don't know why you'd put yourself through it man.

Goodbye Steal My Sunshine! I used to think this game was meh, but this series made me appreciate the things it does well, and I quite like it now. It's not a masterpiece, though.

I think you missed the last sentence. I said I would be fine with it if they didn't blame the game for it. The game already has an undeserved reputation, I only wish they didn't add to it. It's far from perfect, but it's a fine game.

Yes, saying "I hate to be negative" is just being polite. And yes, I actually did have to stop watching at times. I still watched it because I like the people and the entire series doesn't revolve around their aptitude at the game or genre.

Are we getting back to Million Dollar Abby anytime soon, or is that just sorta...forgotten? :)

Loved every second of the 18 episodes. We laughed, we cried, we glitched through blocks (twice).

Now, onto Odyssey?

I appreciate the reply. I did read the last sentence, but felt that was just a more polite version of the initial insult, which wasn't that harsh, but completely condescending in my opinion. I think the guys were very self-deprecating about their skills overall (especially Alex and Dan). This episode was way more, "the controller is haunted," which I almost never believe, but oh well.

I understand if you feel the game was misrepresented here, and that's because you're right, but that's half the fun. It's not meant to represent the game well, it's meant to represent the site well, and it fits the criteria I think. If it was featured on an episode of Encyclopedia Bombastica, the tone would have been much more respectful and analytical, but it's a loosey goosey internet show; people don't always act like good patrons of their hobby in that shooting-the-shit atmosphere, we shout at the game when we fail and treat it with contempt (even when we know it's our fault deep down), half of which is intended to be humorous. That's so much more watchable to me.

You have every right to critique content you're paying for, I just find your wording questionable. I see your side better now, though; thanks for clarifying it somewhat.
