Quick Look: Tetris 99 2.0: Big Block DLC

are you not supposed to go for big combos in this game? cus ben and brad are only going for single lines 99% of the time

Ever since Puyo Puyo Tetris, I always go for the 3-wide well combos when playing. With a little practice, it's not hard to do that and get 8, 10, or more combo, and combos like that drop a gigantic load of debilitating garbage on your opponents.

I'm so hooked on this, managed to get my third win yesterday while I was doing my daily quests. It alone could justify the cost of my Nintendo Online subscription. (Also, to nitpick, the orange piece isn't an "L" anyway.)

@ice_queen: You definitely still send more lines for Tetrises and such, but because survival takes priority and because of the way lines are sent out, going for single lines and combos often ends up being preferable to setting up big Tetris drops.

@ice_queen: I'm not sure, cause I'm pretty bad at T99, but I think it's more about the frequency with which you're earning lines/overall line count rather than getting big clears, given how rapidly things can turn if you get targeted with a half-well full of trash. It's one of the things that throws me about it compared to other contemporary.... Tetris...es. Tetri.

@benpack On holding on to lines too long: Tetris 99 uses a 7 piece bag system. This means that every tetrimino is represented in each set of seven pieces. Knowing that another line will come along sooner than I thought helped break me of my holding habit.

1 line cleared is zero lines send to opponents. Comboing 1 line into another 1 line clear is still zero lines send.

No, you definitely are. I don't think single lines even send any lines over to other players. Though if I remember correctly from back when I was watching very good players, the most effective move was t-spin clears, which is a level of Tetris I will never reach.

Single lines send garbage to the opponents if you are targeting attackers and have two or more players targeting you, since Attacker targeting carries a multiplier. And even without any multiplier on the garbage, single line combos still help clear garbage.

Ahh, Tetris. The quick looks that send most commenters into a slavering, irrational rage. :)

And getting combos is more effective than getting huge clears. Clearing line after line after line in a combo string will count more than infrequently getting Tetris clears.

This game is very much deserving of a Breaking Brad segment, that would be SO MUCH fun to watch.

Such a good time to be a Tetris fan. Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tetris Effect are both all-timers, and although I am Switchless, 99 always looks like a blast.
