Quick Look: The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED]

That's certainly a strong look! The marketing/meta conceit is cute. I guess is comes down to how if feels to play.

I'll wait for the re-remaster of this.

This does seem pretty cool.

I have absolutely no nostalgia for Flashback or any of the other games Vinny struggled to name at the start of the video, but this is one of those games that I will play for the styyyyyyle value alone. Hopefully they put it out on Switch/PS4 at some point.

Great start to the year for games!

The controls can be pretty clunky and frustrating at times, but you can expect that from one of these games. The style and tone it sets is what keeps me going, just to see what the next scene holds.

I missed out on this genre when I was growing up, so I'm glad to support anyone willing to bring them back.

The long lost Flashback Spectrum port finally resurfaces.

I think the game looks absolutely incredible. I wish there were a game from 1987 that actually looked like this at the time. Another World definitely seems to be the main source of inspiration. Added to my wishlist.

I think I might love how harsh and uncompromising this game's visual style is.

I am usually very drawn to games with unique style but this just isn't doing it for me.

I really dislike that this redesign does not have a link to the game's wiki page. It was always a useful tool for understanding and grappling with a game like this.

Yeah this look is so good that I don't mind if you end up scratching your head at some text. It's just part of the journey, man!

Into this, Out of this World on SNES was one of my faves. This definitely has the same 'lots is left unexplained' vibe where you have to experiment.

As much as I love the redesign, I also really miss all of the useful wiki links. Maybe they'll eventually bring it back?

This game looks cool as hell, I love how bleak and unsettling the art style is in this.

This looks like shit, like it wasn't designed for 4 colours but they just took normal coloured pictures and reduced the colours to 4. It's really noticable with text, in the menus, and when the screen is fading to black/white.

To do this kind of thing without drawing pixel-art you'd need to write custom shaders like in Return of Obra-Dinn

Vinnie, I think you're mis-remembering. Flashback and Out of this World had terrible controls.
