Brink was the game that was marketed as a singleplayer story-driven game but was actually just a multiplayer shooter. This misconception was perpetuated by press regurgitating the false notion that it was combining single and multiplayer in some innovative way. A lot of people bought it expecting a campaign and that's where most of the negativity originated.

I don't remember if the game was actually that good, just that it ran very poorly (horrible Rage-era id engine).

I've never sold or traded in games before. It always weirds me out.

I used to sell back games when I was younger. Once I got a job and regretted not having a collection I never sold back a game again.

Is that Penny Arcade stuff from Pat at the beginning accurate? I know the comic will occasionally have guest artists, but I was under the impression that Mike Krahulik was still drawing it.

I'm not a Star Citizen backer, but I'm glad that this sort of large-scope PC game development can exist in this day and age, and especially so given that it's community funded. As game development increasingly shifts towards a homogenized PC+console market, where big budget design has to accommodate the lowest common denominators in order to not exclude any potential customers, having something like this that dares to target a niche audience and embrace the strengths of the PC platform (high-end hardware, peripherals, etc) is a breath of fresh air.

@manga53: I haven't heard the podcast yet because I'm at work, but yeah to the best of my knowledge Krahulik continues to be the artist for Penny Arcade and they have guest artists very infrequently that are pretty clearly marked as such. Out of curiosity, what did Baer say?

shortform- savory = salty. meat often is savory (due to the added salt)- but a 'meaty taste' is not implicitly savory.

that's an oversimplification- but when most people use savory they mean salty (and non-sweet).

Even though the game runs at 60 it still doesn't feel very smooth... I'm still gonna finish it though.

Well it could be argued that someone who enjoys games as a hobby and has a job/career covering the games industry, like @ybbaaabby, benefits from the video game industry being successful. And that buying/selling used games results in developers/publishers not receiving a portion of those sales, which results in them having lower profits and less resources to invest in future projects which hurts the industry as a whole.

However, it could also be argued that used games benefit the games industry more that it hurts it. That the existence of Gamestop promotes video game sales to mainstream consumers to a degree that would otherwise not be possible. It's possible that if used games did not exist, people not being able to use Trade Credit to buy new games would actually result in less new game sales that would hurt developers/publishers even more than used game sales do.

Some would says consumers should support the products they like so they will see more products they like in the future. Others would say that it isn't the consumers job to go out of the way to support a product manufacturer. That it's the manufacturers job to understand their consumers and provide the correct products, in the correct way, for the correct prices.

That's why you've seen the publishers experimenting so much in the last decade. More variation in prices with games costing $15 to $30 instead of every game being $60, aggressive digital sales like on Steam, EA Access/PS Plus subscription services, long term support for games like GTA Online or Overwatch, DLC, season passes, micro transactions.

It's complicated, there is no right "Good/Bad" answer, but there are strong arguments for both sides. Personally, I tend to buy new games almost exclusively, but I rarely do so at full price. I usually wait until they are discounted to $20 to $40s. And there are probably strong arguments to be made about how that is Good/Bad for the industry as well.

Ketchup on French Toast sounds pretty disgusting tbh. I could see a more savory sauce working in the right situation (though I doubt it could ever compete with the berry compote and custard toppings they do around here), but keep that ketchup far away.

Ketchup is allowed to mingle with my fried potatoes and that is it.
