"have faith in science" is a pretty crazy statement. Science isn't a religion, you don't need to have faith in it

This can't be emphasized enough.

Sadly, the idea that science rests on the same philosophical foundations as religion is often pushed by religious zealots in the US. And those people have been able to influence local school boards in some states.

As an Illinois resident I say with complete confidence that the entire midwest absolutely does not call them stocking caps. They are stocking caps if they have the ball on top otherwise they're a beanie.

I've never heard the term toque before, but it sounds like a Northern/Canadian/Alaskan thing. Considering its Wikipedia page, it does appear to be more of a french-Canadian origin.

I don't think anyone under 40 aside from Dan calls a hat with a propeller a beanie.

The only Tarantino movie I don't really like is Jackie Brown.

That's my favourite Tarantino movie!

(I like every movie he's made)

It very well may be his best. Certainly his most underrated. Everybody talks about Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction but when was the last time you heard a Jackie Brown reference?

@tpoppapuff: I think there is a reason for why no one ever quotes Jackie Brown. I wouldn't say the dialog isn't memorable but it's not as punchy and quippable as his other movies.

God arguing about hats and 'what's a theory' is what this podcast is now, isn't it?

@ichthy: I remember that as well I think he made it out of rice paper or something. I tried to hunt down that video but I couldn't find it.

@underthere: If you Google Kevin VanOrd eats a hat it should be the first result. It's on Facebook so I don't know how to share the video.

Dan, its impossible to justify Yoshi's Island as a core Mario game if you don't also count all the other Yoshi's Island games.

Disregarding paper hats, I think a straw hat would probably be the safest "real" hat to eat as long as it wasn't sprayed with some protective coating or binding agent.

I wouldn't trust any modern leather to be free of harmful chemicals.

Unpopular opinion: being someone who hates horror (I'm a wuss), I never played the classic Resident Evil games. However, I found Resident Evil 6 to be a pretty damn great co-op game. It's just a pure action co-op experience. The fact that it essentially has no horror element is 100% a-ok with me. I get why people hate on RE6, but always kind of bugs me when they dismiss it so hard. It's a fine game. Resident Evil 7 returning to the horror means I will never touch it.

In my area, it's a beanie. Knit cap is used sometimes as well, but not a bunch. Woolen cap/hat is another rare alternative. Never heard anyone call them stocking caps. To all the people commenting that they butchered toque - that word is basically not used in the US. Only in very select communities, probably. This podcast was the first I had ever heard of that word existing.

Pompous Jeff Bakalar was golden.

It's fun to think that none of the members of the beastcast were old enough to see Pulp Fiction in theaters.

Their snobby gamer bit starting at 1:34:05 had me cracking up real good while receiving questioning looks from colleagues. Thank you for the laughs guys.

Fair enough but damn it's an amazing movie. There's a level of heart to it that simply doesn't exist in other Tarantino films.

I'd just like to point out that Dan has still not yet eaten a hat.
