Hotwire's definitely the mode to play... I've had a lot of fun with it so far.

*EDIT* The arsenal is a bit heavy for police work, but they've gone slightly low-key by making LMGs and Rocket Launchers be "Battlefield Pickups".

I feel like they've buffed the handguns up from what I've played so far. They feel very satisfying to use.

Jeff continues to be an FPS pointing pro.

What are Jaff and Dan up to? Just runnin' around robbin' banks all whacked up on Scooby snacks.

Huh, I just decided to try the Beta out 5 minutes before this was posted. My PC wasn't really good enough though, plus I don't like Battlefield.

would rather them slow the gameplay way down for this. would love to see something like rainbow six: vegas.

Jeff always strikes me as playing every shooter as if it was CoD.

It bums me out that this game exists at all, honestly. It was misguided before all the stuff that happened last year and now it's almost comically misguided.

Huh. I totally get Jeff's comment about the scale of this game. Just the concept that per round roughly a hundred cops are killed and skyscrapers fall and buildings blow up just seems ridiculous. :P I've played every battlefield game since 1942 and was really let down by BF4, and this doesn't really seem to remedy any of what I didn't like about that game. But hey! Open beta with a fair amount of content actually means that I can form a pretty safe opinion before release which is nice!

Maybe this is better than the E3 beta? That thing was rough.

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't understand how to fly choppers in the battlefield games? Like, the shooting is arcadey, all the ground vehicles are super intuitive and easy to pilot, but helicopters are out of some kind of nightmare simulation where they're impossible to control.

The crazy thing is, I've played Arma 2 and 3 extensively and I can fly extremely well in those games. Military simulators have helicopters that are easier to control than Battlefield's helicopters. Does this make any sense to anyone, or am I crazy?

That Dead Space patch made me realise that I'd definitely get this day one...if it contained necromorphs...and was set on a space station...and was single-player only.

Sigh, I miss 2008 when DICE were making Mirror's Edge and Visceral were making Dead Space.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction was the first game, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames was the second entry you guys don't like.

This might end up being the first Battlefield I don't play. It seems like pure fun, but I really am not sure why they'd make a Battlefield game without the tanks, APCs, the god damn Katyushas, and all the other elements that make this series different from other multiplayer shooters.

At least I still get to be weirdly arrogant about my chopper-piloting skills.

Also, "Cops at the Meth Compound" really should've been a The Clash song. I might just write it myself.

Hardline really does look like a re-skinned BF4. Playing Cops and Robbers in a BF setting isn't enough to make me care. And, like Jeff, I felt burned with BF4. Maybe the next one or two BFs will be interesting and more captivating?

Battlefield 4 was fantastic and this beta just feels like a generic rip-off of that.

Just doin' cop stuff here folks.

This game looks to have the graphical fidelity of last gen. Looks similar to BF3 on the 360

Yeah, cops in CS also had sprays and ridiculous equipment, so that's not a huge deal.

I really like Hotwire on the Downtown map. I hated it on Dust Bowl. I haven't enjoyed Heist. And, Conquest is just more Battlefield. It's okay.

So is this game on the Wii U or why are the graphics so BAD?

For once the Metal Gear thing they talked about was explicitly explained with nanomachines. Instead of other times where people say "nanomachines' and it's like n-no, that wasn't explained by nanomachines, actually...

I'm pretty sure the Level Destruction was fairly toned down on consoles for BF4, I imagine this will be the same.

Also Jeff needs to stop playing every shooter like COD.

The amount of equipment is crazy for police, but I guess you could say this is a VIDEO GAME. Realism != fun game mechanics.

@beaudacious: The level destruction in BF4 wasn't terribly impressive on PC either. Their destruction has been a let down since Bad Company 2.

It's fun.

The thought of Detective Dan Ryckert is terrifying.

I thought the city map in the previous beta was pretty good. Zipping and grappling across buildings with the money was awesome. However, the maps in the QL made it look like a reskinned Battlefield game. Hopefully the new modes make a difference.

The multiplayer portrayal of cops vs criminals is utterly stupid. In a funny way.

I recommend the criminal affirmative, contains my favorite voice over so far, and is also the name of my favorite punk band.

Yo so fuck the streamlining of battlefield classes, forcing people to specialize makes teamwork way more awesome. But I also haven't enjoyed BF since 2/2142, so what do I know?

Just played a bit of the beta and I still have no interest in Battlefield. Also, still don't get the cops and robbers thing. Who would try and rob something with a group of 16?

The reason for that is that it is a beta and to reduce the download size, they tone down things like texture quality which in turn will increase the amount of people that will give it a go. Pretty logical if you give it all of three seconds thought.

Visceral making this game bums me the hell out.

Also I'm only 20 mins into this video but already up to 3 wrestling references by Dan. Starting to think he doesn't have a wide variety of things to talk about.

Bad Company 2 is my favourite multiplayer FPS experience to date.
