Unfinished: EX: Fortnite 07/26/2017

I'm sure no one will read this, but as someone who has been playing this game for the past week, I feel the need to respond to all the naysayers in this thread:

The more difficult FortNite gets, the more fun it is.

I'm finally getting to level 15-19 areas in the starting area, and the end waves are MUCH more challenging, requiring my team to build more complex defensive arrays. It took many hours of play to get to that point, which may turn off more casual players, but it's worth the investment. This wasn't shown in the QuickLook at all, as they are still running through the very easy areas that don't require any traps or building to complete.

This is probably the most overlooked part of this game and how early players perceive it. Everyone keeps seeing the really early parts of the game and never see the more complex evolved form.

Once you hit the Plankerton zone, requiring maybe 10 hours of play to achieve, the game types and difficulty start to ramp up and the challenge becomes far more fun. Building and Harvesting becomes more focused as you learn what comes from where and what you need.

Heck you didn't even see the actual persistent base defense which gives the best challenge to your building and defending skill.

The "free2play" system they currently have implemented is one of the most egregious I've seen in a while. People that have sunk in 50+ hours are hitting progression walls that only spending money will move them forward (or hundreds of hours). This is absolutely disgusting, no thank you.

That kind of sinks it for me. I enjoyed Destiny solo until i got to the point where I was grinding and couldn't do anything "new" by myself. (I played at launch). And I hung it up for good. If I can only get so far solo, and then it gets too hard and needs cash -- I'm not even going to pick it up... Plus Destiny got obtuse with a casual solo player not getting great loot or knowing how to get rare items (vendors appearing once a week asking for currency I didn't have). I get that some people want to look stuff up and watch youtube - i just want to play the game and not be useless because I'm so under-powered because I didn't read FAQs and "min/max" and log in every day. So this might be for those people, not me?

And by the amount of times he said "we depend on POWER PLAYERS and youtubers to advance our game" -- I'm thinking the odds of me having fun playing this solo past the initial area will be about zero...

I think this game has a really neat idea to it, i just don't know about the pricing?

I saw it had a 60 dollar price tag. If I played this, i'd want to play with my friends and I just don't see a 60 dollar value ($240 if you have 3 friends). Like I said, neat idea, but I don't want to play it for 60.

@fonzinator

Standard Edition - $39.99

Deluxe Edition - $59.99

Super Deluxe Edition - $99.99

Limited Edition - $149.99

They didn't show it much, but it looks like you can sure pump tons of money into the microtransactions as well. And it's totally "buying power", not just cosmetic items.

The one good thing seems to be that you get extra copies of the game with the non-standard editions, so it's $40 all around.

mod support - let players fix your problems. the fact is that there are some games that would have been so much more successful if you could have modded them. I can already think of a ton of great things players could do to make the game better on some custom mod servers.

But then they couldn't sell you as much stuff! Usually less and worse stuff, even... :(

I think this looks neat - at least interesting enough to try - but I'm beyond sick of buying games that also have a F2P design. Some cosmetics or DLC is okay, but this looks like a full on F2P game that also charges a $40 entry fee?

I guess Breath of the Wild was a miss for you as well.

It was by far the worst aspect of that game x100000000

Neat looking game though.

It'll be free to play next year when it's out of early access.

Yeesh, this is an ugly game. Stiff animation, lame character designs, clumsy environmental lighting design...it's shocking that Epic would release something that looks like this, honestly.

He can't just say "Fortnite," it HAS to be "The World of Fortnite." Just talk normal.

You only pay if you want early access. It IS a full-on F2P game, or at least will be when it hits 1.0.
