I'm surprised it's taken this long for there to be a standalone game inspired by the Battle Royale/Hunger Games story, especially with the wave of survival games we've been having over the past few years. This approach to it always seemed more favourable to me too, with everyone starting with the same equipment at the same time.

I like the concept but after thinking hard about it I realized I don't actually want to play the game. Quick Look helped confirm that.

Also all these these games in Early Access etc. etc.

@danryckert Not sure if you're planning to play this game beyond the Quick Look but these tips apply to anybody so I'll post them anyways:

1. You don't need to punch trees/rocks at the start, every spawn location is always littered with sticks and rocks so you can make/take what you need and get going as fast as possible.

2. The bow is great but nobody ever looks out for traps. There are some easily crafted ones like Punji Sticks (a stick combined with those poison containers) or a smoke bomb (the same but with a rock instead of a stick). Everybody either keeps back with a bow or charges in with melee, so if you're the guy with snare traps and blinding bombs you'll be king. Basically think Arnold in Predator.

3. The Centre Kill Switch doesn't force people to the middle of the map, you're thinking of the big poison wall that appears at the edges of the map when it hits 10 minutes remaining. The kill switch activates every poison canister simultaneously, which can sometimes actually force people away from the centre depending on where the canisters spawned. Easily mixed up.

4. The best route to victory is generally to find the nearest building, loot it as fast as possible, then grind up everything you don't want/don't have space for in those blue recycler machines. That way you can get loads of FUNC for chests or airdrops (blue chests tend to have the best stuff in the game) and you aren't leaving any goodies behind for any would-be looters.

I'm really enjoying this game so far, especially in the teams of two mode with a friend. I've had little interest in the traditional survival games popping up everywhere lately but the desperate moments you often find yourself in during The Culling combined with the quick matches has resulted in some really memorable moments for me (such as winning a game by just picking up every nearby rock and stick and chucking it at an axe-brandishing pursuer). If anybody wants to know more about it from someone with 14 hours clocked just ask.

So what happens when I push together pizza and fried chicken really hard?

Not a single aspect of this game seems appealing to me. Different strokes for different folks though, I suppose.

Jeff and Dan should watch Battle Royale if they want the Hunger Games concept with no PG-13 Bullshit

The only WWE Studios movie I've seen is this horror film called "No One Lives" or something like that. It wasn't awful!

It's like Ryan was with a controller. You could always hear the clicks of the controller when he was driving a QL.

I'm with you. It looks like typical crafting/survival steamtrash + bad PvP. This....is not for me.

The Running Man, however, is amazing. Everyone go watch The Running Man.

THere seriously cannot be enough comments saying if you like this idea, Battle Royale is the thing to watch...and The Running Man. The Running Man is amazing. So is Battle Royale. THe first one I mean.

Mothereffer. So instead of "Spectating", this game says you're "fapping"? Pass. Passing on this game so much.

Genital Triangle

It's not the main part of the movie really, but Hard Target has the theme of hunting people for sport, it's also a John Woo film starring Van Damme, and is fantastic.
I like the first Battle Royale and after seeing that film have no intention of watching those Hunger Games films, they seem tame in comparison.

This game is not for me, looks boring.

I've already played this game for around 10hrs. Tons of potential and still tons of fun in its current state.

Ive been watching H20 Delirious youtube channel on these. Been pretty funny. Game looks pretty fun actually!

The dumb crafting animations are fantastic.

Steam needs a category called "Punch Trees, Get Wood" instead of boring old "Survival"

It's not a good movie, but Mean Guns was the first movie like this I ever saw, and it certainly wasn't short on character.

So basically this is just kind of H1Z1's Battle Royale mode?

@mustachio: It's even cooler when your ultra heroic friend wins the game by lobbing a crowbar across the arena. Man he's cool.

I only watched 5 minutes so far but wow they really are just going for the hunger games thing [leaderboard up in the sky may as well have been how the deaths in hunger games worked]

Hopefully the year in Early Access will allow this game to mature out of the teenage boy humour.

The developers should Hire Beat Takeshi to record an announcer pack.

Speaking as a player with about 15 hours invested in The Culling so far I really feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of it, it's super fun if you're into the whole Battle royale thing and the devs are super communicative with the community over on the subreddit. Really willing to listen to complaints and quickly push patches to answer the playerbase's problems. I'm really excited to see where it goes in the future.

Stephen King wrote a book called The Running Man. The movie is nothing like the book. No super heroes. No arenas. I honestly encourage everybody to read the book. You'll scratch your head and say "how did they go so wrong with the movie?!" Seriously. Two different stories. Lol

I just added this game to my wishlist the other day, so I'm pretty stoked to see a quick look on it. This will help decide whether I actually take the plunge or wait for a massive sale.
