Another good episode, and glad they delayed it by an hour. I was able to tune in just as they were starting when I got home from work.

I hope they decide to make use of the stage select and find the alternate levels.

this game looks frustrating as hell. can't wait till they get to the igavania or whatever games. at least in them you can outlevel or cheese the challenging stuff a bit easier, although order of ecclesia was still brutally hard in places.

Is there anything in 2d action games as epic as this Death fight? On top of the masts of a giant ghost ship, a storm of scythes cover the screen in bullet-hell fashion...and then, Death gets real mad.

It's an awesome test of skill too, notice that Vinny got worse the more they tried to cheese the fight. Can't cheese this!

They're gonna hate stage 6, I've never beaten it without a certain secret within the stage. Stage 7 is great though, can't wait for that.

Rondo of Blood is probably my favorite Castlevania game. So good! While Maria is kind of easy mode, she's also a ton of fun. I used her when I was finishing up all the alternate stages.

I wonder if they'll play through the other stages after they kill off Drac. Probably not, but it would be cool to see.

While I get you wanting to play it 'the right way' but man Maria's ending is so good XD at least replay the last level to see that (she minces bosses with her animal friends)

I canont believe outleveling or cheesing are considered positive. This game requires skill rather than cheese and let's be honest, Vinny aint exactly pro material.

Rondo of Blood seems like the best castlevania

She's required for some levels as her slide and double jump gets through secret passages that Richter can't reach. For example getting over that motor past the metal beam in the ship.

This game is so good but they are missing half the game by skipping all the alternate stages and bosses. They should check out stage select to get a hint. They really easy to figure out but I think u need to play as Maria and use double jump to access them? I like play as Maria on the alternate stage. She is fun to use and her super dragon destorys bosses.

Yeah the 4 alternate stages are awesome, alternate stage 2 is maybe my favorite level. I wouldn't be offended if they don't go back for 'em though. For those viewers who want to play the game, it gives them something new to discover.

It's a positive thing to me. I'd rather get stronger than a boss and beat it without any challenge than not finish a game I'm enjoying just because I'm not good enough.

I haven't finished the video yet, but I was really hoping that the painting in the ship was going to eat Vinny at some point to see their reaction.

Never heard of this game until this feature but Maria is way more fun to watch than another boring ass CastleVania dude.

I don't believe that the tip from the chat regarding how Death's knock-back works is accurate. I could be wrong, as this is always the point of the game that I quit, but watching Vinny play made me come to the conclusion that Death is knocked back more as he's moving faster and in the exact opposite direction in which he's moving when hit. That's why he's kept down so much some of the time.

What's happening is that he happens to be on his way up at a decent speed when he gets hit the first time, then he's pushed down and off of the screen. Since he can't get hit when he's off of the screen, he has more of an opportunity to build up speed, so he's knocked down further when he finally comes back up and gets hit.

If he barely gets knocked back from a hit, then it's because he's barely moving when he gets hit. If he's above you and gets knocked upward from a hit, then it's because he's moving down at you. If he's to your side and gets knocked away from you from a hit, then it's because he's moving toward you.

In short, if you want Death to go down, then only hit him when he's clearly moving up.

Lure him up toward the top of the screen as he swoops down, and whip him as he comes up. He'll then go down, and you can push him further using the same method. Just give him time to build up a bit of speed. Otherwise, you won't push him back much at all, and his brief invincibility frames will allow him to basically just stay in place without being pushed in any direction as long as he isn't moving.

I'm surprised they haven't flagged this video as Premium yet!

For some reason, Vinnyvania episodes never load correctly for me. They either don't work or flash to green and skip to 2:30 in at the start.

I don't think 2 or 3 hits is worth the 20 hearts. Vinny's probably able to match or exceed that with just normal throws of the holy water or any other weapon, plus it'd leave some for the second form.

The holy water super only seems worth it to push death to the bottom of the screen, but that hasn't been very consistent.

I seem to recall the trick to beating death being just consistent whip performance rather than trying to item crash or rely on subweapons.... If you focus on the scythes instead of death during the first form, they're much more manageable, and then you have subweapons ready to spam for the second form. Ironically, this was the one major boss fight for which I had to use Richter and couldn't use Maria, so she's clearly not better in every circumstance~

This IS the best Death fight in the whole series, and probably the best boss fight in the whole series permanently.

They're moving really fast so I hope they go rescue the other girls and hit the alternate stages. Best Castlevania deserves more screen time.

So Vinny is playing a PC Engine game, on a Wii emulator, on Wii U.

I just found out that I never played Symphony of the Night. (I could have sworn that I had played it but I checked the platforms and the games I have and I haven't.)

So I jumped up to check my Vita and saw Symphony of the Night on there.

Then I saw Dracula x Chronicles on there with worse reviews... BUT it comes with a superior version of Symphony of the Night AND Rondo of Blood.

So... 2.5 Castlevania games I never played of one of my favorite video game series for $10? That is amazing! I will try unlock Rondo of Blood and play alongside with this series :D

That's definitely an awesome discovery for you. I've had Dracula X Chronicles on my PSP for a few years, but didn't really give it a serious try until Koji Igarashi announced his Bloodstained kickstarter last year. I still haven't unlocked Symphony of the Night or the original version of Rondo of Blood on there, but I'd already played through both games before I bought this.

The Rondo of Blood remake you start with on there is pretty faithful to the original game, but I prefer the sprites to the 3D graphics. I'm also not sure how I feel about the newer version of Symphony of the Night; it kind of bothers me that they rerecorded the voice acting, because the bad voice acting of the original is one of the many memorable things about the game. I can't say for certain it's bad for the game, of course, since I haven't played that version yet.
