Advance Wars! I'm waiting to see a 12-year old squire with spiky hair and a genial smile on his face.

FYI, everybody, it's not actually out on PS4 yet. Devs have said it's "coming soon" to PlayStation with no concrete date yet.

As someone who has been curious about Advance Wars, I'd like to check this out. Think I'll wait and see if Limited Run does a PS4 physical release. Seems exactly like the sorta game they'd do.

A really cool feature that they didn't mention is that this has asynchronous online multiplayer, as in you and your opponent can take your turns whenever you want, leave, come back at another time, and take your next turn at your leisure.

Yes! Brad is Back, and Bradder than ever!

The music in this game sounds very Volgarr-the-Viking-ish.

The closest thing that I've played that's similar to Advance Wars was the original Final Fantasy Tactics on the PlayStation, and I really liked that game a lot. I can see myself buying Wargroove.

God I wish this didn't use a medieval fantasy aesthetic.

Brad's playstyle of long, strategic pauses to think out his moves greatly contrasts my style of "move without thinking twice and mess up everything down the line." This game looks rad. The visuals and the little details like the birds flying in from out the the wrapping frame and the animations are so slick.

@hassun: You should check out Tiny Metal. This and Metal all play like old Advance Wars games to a T. Almost every mechanic is intact. The only difference is Tiny Metal has a bit of a long overly serious storyline, its polygonal and it has fog of war on every map.

@hassun: I've heard that sentiment as well regarding technical issues and that the games AI was simple plus some missing gameplay features at launch but having played Tiny Metal, this game and the Advance Wars games I have to say the core gameplay doesn't seem all that different between them. Granted I'm still more or less six missions into Wargroove but it plays the same as Tiny Metal/Advance Wars. Just replace artillary with arrowmen and infantry with swordsmen. But if you've already played it then I can't discount your experience. I thought the story was an incredible slog of mashing the fast forward button but it played as I would expect of a spiritual successor.

This game looks really fun! I may or may not dive into it this weekend. Although after playing a ton of Into The Breach, I'm disappointed whenever this type of game doesn't let you bash your enemies into each other.

It's pretty weird that Ragna clearly dies, since a ghost leaves her body, and then she's totally fine afterward. I guess the ghost changed its mind and came back?

I've got to agree with the general take. Your showcasing a game Brad, play as such. Don't play as you normally would, don't worry about messing up, don't worry about dying. Show us how units move, show us the menus, the animation, the movement, the systems.

Preform too the feature and the intent it is suppose to have? Like this kind of gameplay on a UPF, a LP or a random "Brad streams an hour of this game" is perfectly fine. It is not suitable for what is suppose to help me decide if I like the game or not.

If this is really an issue for Brad specifically, give the lead too someone else to show off the game.

All these Advanced Wars comments and not a single person seems to remember there's a fantasy series by the same team called... Fire Emblem. So, this is a Fire Emblem clone, and honestly a simplified version of FE sounds more interesting to me than Fire Emblem these days so... Brad... take a turn.

@rowsbywoof Not really, since there are zero RPG elements to this. No leveling mechanics, and no money, units, etc. rollover from one stage to the next. It's more in the style of Advance Wars, where you can capture cities, build units etc. Just in a fantasy setting.

I gave in and bought this on Switch and played it for a couple hours. It's pretty fun! Nothing truly amazing so far, though. It sticks pretty closely to the Advance Wars formula so far. I wish it would mix it up a bit with new mechanics. But maybe that's coming if I stick with it?

I've heard really good things about the campaign editor (i.e. you could make the game in it?), and that this has crossplay.

Pretty much an instabuy for me on what was shown here alone. It seems like a steal for $20.

[/extreme actually voice] Even the title seems to be paying tribute to another forgotten fantasy series called Warsong (or Langrisser in its native Japan). That game also had single units on a map that become a horde in the action phase.

This QL is about twice as long as it should have been but as an advance wars fan the game looks super cool.
