So sad this series is over already. Dan didn't mention Ghost Babel when listing the non-canon games he's tried, so maybe he could play that.

Well, that was a thing. I always knew MGS was pretty much a retread of MG2, but Vinny is pretty much right. Kojima's been recycling the same plot across the MG series. Let's see how things turn out with Death Stranding. Also, I'm convinced that Dan is the Homer Simpson of the crew. Take from that what you will.

@spikespeigel: While I would say that is true from Metal Gear 2 through Metal Gear Solid 3, starting in Metal Gear Solid 2 they are obviously doing it intentionally and playing with the idea of a story that keeps repeating itself throughout time. Especially in MGS2 with the Raiden fakeout and the fake explanation for the SSS.

I don't think Dan even attempted Stealth in this game.

That Madnar fight is among the stupidest things in the entire Metal Gear franchise. I can't think of anything outside of MGSIV as dumb as that.

I would love to see a Death Stranding endurance run when it comes out. Not a first look, but a full blown endurance run. Mostly, cause I don't intend to play it myself, but I would love to experience Dan playing the whole darn thing even if it turns out to be a hot mess.

Indeed. I find the best way to ask someone to do something for you is to ask passive aggressively like a nagging parent. It's the most effective method right up there with "can I speak to your manager?" and "did you check the back?"

In regards to the hokey flirting/innuendo at the end, before getting too critical of Kojima, just remember that's like every pre-Casino Royale James Bond movie and we all know action movies are a big influence for Kojima. It would not have been thought out of place at all for the time in which is was made.

BTW Dan missed quite a few items in this playthrough, including some that he probably would have really liked, suppressor and submachine gun in particular, but obviously they didn't matter than much in the end.

It's good that Dan finally played through the MSX games. When I played through MG2 I was definitely surprised to how many elements in MGS actually made their debut here. Also, despite the key cards, I found it to still be a pretty entertaining game to play. MG1 on the other hand, does not hold up.

Well, I was suggesting for them to do something next time that is for the benefit of all of us. Slight criticism on their videos and how they do them isn't silly at all, especially when we're actually paying for said video content.

But hey, some people like watching them run around and be confused, so I guess it's whatever.

Guys, I think it's time that we all acknowledge that Metal Gear is bad, and has always been bad.

That's because Kojima is bad, and the only thing he's ever done that I liked was Snatcher. Though that game did NOT hold up as an adult.... I guess I'm saying that yes I agree, Metal Gear is and has always been bad.

I dont know where all this Metal Gear hate is suddenly coming from considering no one really had an issue with it before...in fact its been hailed by many here to be a great video game series.

Metal Gear has always been a very polarizing series. Kojima is a polarizing game designer.

I'm very glad that Dan finally played the original 2 Metal Gear games and enjoyed them as much as I did. I played MG1 and MG2 leading up to the release of MGS4 and was very surprised at how much MG2 innovated over MG1 and how much content and mechanics was brought over to Solid.

You have literally just described everything that has ever been popular or loved by anyone. Anything popular will naturally get people who hate or just hate it because it was popular. Just because those people are usually loud, it doesn't mean the people who still love it are any less.

Metal Gear Specifically has had some bad times as of late, making the dislike seem louder.

But look at any other fandom Star Wars, Sports, Power Rangers. The trends will be the same.

@madbootsy: The "You're getting paid to do this" and "This is a premium feature" argument is coming off as incredibly entitled. They have other things they do during the day, not the least of which is making sure the stream set-up is working correctly. You basically sound like the guy who gets stopped by a cop and says "I pay YOUR salary".

They took all of 3 minutes to get back on track, the rest of us hadn't seen this in three weeks either, and doing a video series takes a ton of work. Try doing it consistently for a bit and then see how obnoxious comments like that are.

I see Dan's finally managed to kick his addiction to collodial silver. Good for him!

lol alright alright chill out. To be fair, even Alex acknowledged that the chat was rightfully losing it for the first 10 minutes. No need to get so defensive at my suggestion that they do some light prep work for videos like this one.

I did goof though. I shouldn't have presumed that it would be so easily feasible with their current lives/work schedules. I made a passing criticism about the video without thinking too much about how it actually came out, so, my bad.

Let's be honest, 27-year-old Kojima was a bit dorky when he designed that ending :)

A large part of it is that Dan will often proclaim it as the "greatest story ever told" in a very sincere way, which will instantly trigger a response in people, which is probably what Dan is looking for.

Personally I think all the weirdness aside it would be incredibly shortsighted to not recognize a ton of really groundbreaking design in the Metal Gear series from both a narrative and gameplay perspective. While Kojima has a healthy dose of pervy jokes and situations in all his games, he has also written and directed some of the strongest female characters in the industry. For all the dumb gameplay mechanics, he has also come up with incredibly clever ideas. There is also something to be said about the way Metal Gear Solid has tread it's very own and unique path throughout the years while still being, at the very least, a decent playing videogame. Despite unconventional control schemes and bizarre mechanics, he always manages to makes this stuff work. The Phantom Pain is one of the best playing stealth action games with an incredible engine which will sadly rot in Konamis archives.

So I'm sure a lot of people genuinely dislike MGS for various reasons, but a lot of the negativity is probably a little in-jest and a little reactionary to Dans baiting.

You know, I think this game is legit genius for the time it was made. I agree with the sentiment that Kojima writes stories like he's playing with action figures, but it's charming nonetheless, and some of the camp has to be intentional.

So now we have to re-visit Metal Gear Solid. You can't end it like this Dan. Make Vinny, Abby or Alex take the drivers seat. Do it!!

@ravelle: The sad part is the nightmare was removed in the HD collection so that dumb conversation never took place. That and the weird skate boarding in Substance are the two reasons I still keep my PS2 discs. (stupid I know)

I'm glad they didnt have to backtrack, (as in go up all those stairs again, not the usal backtracking) that really would have sucked.

I also like that in the MGS universe you can get blown up and come back like it's nothing. Kojima's been watching that "Japanese Anime".
