It's been 3 years since Skate 3 and I'm gettin' the meth-itches for a new one. Anyone else here also a fan, or a skateboarder, or both? The future of the franchise (and skateboarding games) looks pretty uncertain because of no more Blackbox and whatnot. Someone else, be bummed with me! :(
Skate
EA's take on skateboarding featuring a unique analog stick trick system that has distinquished itself from the Tony Hawk fanchise.
Hungry for a new Skate
It's been 10 years since the last Beyond Good and Evil. It's been 6 years since the last Mirror's Edge. You don't know real pain, man.
IMO Skate went downhill after the first one. The first one was amazing, and the second and third had some nice ideas, but they were executed badly and they removed a lot of fun stuff... Also: Skate needs openworld freeroam multiplayer. And by NEEDS, I mean that I really REALLY wanted it in all 3 of them and never got it the way I wanted. Still though, what a fucking great game the first one was... Sigh, the memories
I also didn't love the sequels but I'd definitely like to see them take another shot (or someone else). Skate with really well integrated multiplayer would be great.
Having Forza like levels of graphics customization on boards and clothes and everything would also be a cool addition. And maybe let people buy and make their own skate parks like the old Tony Hawk skate editor you can try out too if you want.
Oh man. Isn't that screenshot from Thrasher: Skate and Destroy for ps1? My brain convinces me that game would be just as great today as it was then. I loved how you had to stick the landing. But yeah, skate was the next best thing to thrasher, and a new one would be pretty great.

Holy shit, it's been THAT long? Wow.
I think I spent the most time with the first one. But I enjoyed them all (3 to a lesser degree). I'd really like to see another one. Or a decent Pro Skater game. Incidentally, I've been playing No More Heroes recently, and the way that game is structured, paced, and styled is reminding me a lot of Pro Skater 3 and 4.

It's only been 5 years since the browser game and 4 years since the iPad game. They're both really good (for 2D platformers made quickly with a small budget)
I agree about Skate 2 and 3 being lesser games. They felt fatigued. That's what you get when you try to annualize skateboarding games, I guess. It's not like you can update the ui and the "roster" and call it a day.

>only 5
>only 4
Those still don't count as "games". I loved the iPad game, and hope they make a new one to coincide with the new game, but that's not a replacement for a full sequel.

Well they've at least announced another Mirror's Edge. So that's something.
@bilbomarks: I'm both a fan of Skate and a skateboarder(although not much is getting done here in scotland, not during the winter anyway). I would love a new skate but i somehow felt that as the games got a little larger with skate 2 and 3 that they got a little more ridiculous 'tony hawks pro skater' style shit was happening. Not that that's usually a bad thing, it's just, Most of the people I know that skate and like the game, like it because it was the most realistic(although thinking back of those glitch compilations...) skating game.
I feel like as it aimed to be more accessible by becoming maybe a little more wacky than it originally was that it lost some of that feel to it. Had to be done of course, I doubt that game had a huge amount of mass appeal outside of skateboarders and the odd sports game fan after everyone burned themselves out on THPS.
To be fair, as a purely mechanical experience, I think Skate 3 was the best. It had a better frame-rate, better on-foot controls, better replay-camera controls, and hard-core mode. I agree that it was worse in some respects like aesthetically, and narratively, but you can't dismiss the positive things that came with it.
@makeyourself270 I totally pop in "Thrasher: Skate and Destroy" from time to time, and if you remember how to play (it's like riding a bicycle for me) it's still great.
Called in sick for work when the original Skate came out. It's one of my most played games of all time. The second one was alright and walking was a welcome addition. Three was a piece of shit...was really looking forward to the Hardcore mode, but that was just broken from the get-go.
Is skating still a thing people care about? It seems like this is no longer the place in time for such a game
I loved Skate. Would definitely be up for more.
It's been 12 years since Shenmue 2 you don't know what pain is mate.

@veektarius: do you live under a rock? Skating is huge.
I would love a new Skate game, loved 1 and 2 but felt 3 went off track a bit. I think it would interesting to see what a good dev could do with a more powerful physics engines and stuff for next(or is it current now?) gen. The two consoles built in capture features would work great with a game like Skate as well.
@evo: In what country?
@evo: In what country?
Pretty much everywhere, especially Australia, America and Europe.
@evo: I don't see em around here much (in New York). Maybe it's more of a West Coast thing.
Man,I loved me some Skate. Skate 2 brought in much needed features, but many were poorly executed. Skate 3 was meh at best. It became too open, too downhill focused, with a few parks scattered around. Not as many great lines like the one to the right of the Art Museum in 1 &2. Spent hours in that spot alone.
@veektarius: I live in Pittsburgh and my neighborhood has skater kids EVERYWHERE. also a remarkable amount of my friends are in their late 20s and early 30s and still skate a lot. I think it's a lot bigger than you think.
I'm just having fun, hard to tell over the internet sometimes when someone's j/king around.
