Sonic Unleashed is two different Sonic titles released in 2008 across four consoles. Both titles feature high-speed Sonic stages, slower-paced "Werehog" levels, and town hubs where players must progress through the story.
that looks similar too what the new sonic is doin i think. i think im mostly referring to the daytime sequences with where you use the bumper buttons to "lane change". but don't quote me i haven't actually played the game just watched footage. but i agree with your simplified style.
For Sonic to succeed it needs more gimmicks, tacked on baditude, sections where you just hold forward, ocassionally dipping into two alternate lanes and definitely some gamers who are unable to let go of the past. This game has all of that and more in the trailer alone so I predict a full 5 stars from GiantBomb.
All SEGA need to do is make the game they are making without the Warehog sections. Do multiple paths through the level, time attack modes, plenty of hidden extras, etc.
That's ALL they need to do. They're overcomplicating things.
