well that wasn't as big as a train wreck as everyone thought
Spike Video Game Awards 2012
Concept »
The 2012 iteration of the Spike VGAs, and the final show bearing the VGA branding.
Pre-Show Discussion
- South Park: Stick of Truth
- Last of Us + release date (May 7, 2013)
- Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2
- Phantom Pain Solid
- Dark Souls II
- Ass Creed 3: Tyranny of King Washington
- Gears of War Judgement
- Tomb Raider
- Halo 4 Spartan Ops
- Bioshock Infinite (Gameplay)
And that's a wrap.
For what it was it wasn't bad. I liked the reveals.
Now if you all will excuse me, I have this strange compelling need to go view that movie starring Tom Cruise.
This is at least closer to what the SPIKE VGAs should be like...not perfect...but better than years past for pacing and interest.
Half Life 2 for Game of the Decade is still my highlight in terms of awards and Dark Souls 2 for reveals. Can't wait to hear more about Dark Souls 2 (hopefully even an E3 gameplay reveal). Very curious on the console platforms FromSoftware is aiming for.
The show was much better than last year. Glad to see Half-Life 2 win the Game of the Decade award as well as The Walking Dead winning game of the year.

With the new consoles around the corner, it's not really a surprise that there weren't many "big" reveals. I think overall, 2013 is going to be a pretty muted year for big game releases, as all the usual suspects ramp up for the next generation of consoles.
I wouldn't say it will be muted. I'm just expecting that a lot of big announcements have been held back for E3 cuz that's when the next-gen hype train will get a rolling.
Hopefully the show continues to get better as years go on. This was a big step up from last years shitfest.
@Colourful_Hippie: I mean muted in terms of actual releases. We're not going to have a year of back to back stellar releases like we've had the past few. The 2013 summer drought is probably going to be the worst one in a long time. All the big devs are moving on to the new hardware. E3 will be nuts, as we'll get console announcements, as well as a slew of next-gen games being shown off or teased, but as for actual releases for the year? Don't expect a ton.
So that was actually not as terrible as expected. There were a few parts that fell flat (Sam Jackson just using quotes from his movies while in games, being bombarded with NERDS) but it wasn't as bad as last year.

Great show, Sam Jackson killed it and the announcements were actually worth noting this year. Zachary Levi should pick his nose with a shotgun though, ugh was he just a plague on the show.
The awards show that some of you people are wanting will never happen as long as it has to be aired on television. We've been over this already you guys. Backstage stream has been a good compromise so far and I can see it improving.

Brilliant
I was shocked at how decent this year's show actually was. Games that deserved recognition actually got it, there were some great announcements, and Sam Jackson is the best possible host a show like this could have.

Right, because the two minutes he was on it, mostly reading cheesy shit on a cue card someone else wrote, calls for that. The show 'Chuck' will forever keep him in my good graces.Zachary Levi should pick his nose with a shotgun though, ugh was he just a plague on the show.
Dude. So going with that Phantom Pain guy being another Snake clone, maybe all the hallucinations are side effects of being a direct clone (rather than one that's born and raised a la Solid and Liquid), so all of Big Boss' memories and whatnot are completely fucking with this clones sense of reality, all the while actual dudes are coming to kill the clone of the greatest soldier what ever existed.

Flying fire whale and fire pegasus can be explained away by nanomachines right?

Wasn't there supposed to be something about a classic game ?
Yeah I remember a tweet about a classic game being revived or something. Kind of thinking they are talking about Castlevania now.
But that's a sequel to an existing reboot.
Yeah I know, but it is the best guess I can think of. Nothing else shown is classic really at all.

Actually this one will take a hint from Assassin's Creed with ancestral memory being the cause. Also the Patriots were really Promoforerunnertheans-Who-Came-Before.
