You make a good argument. Regardless of platform, Square hasn't shown us much from its high profile franchises. They are very quickly becoming a niche company which is totally insane considering they put out all the Final Fantasy games. Their original IPs aren't being marketed very well but I guess a lot of that could be because they're not very good. The company really seems to be in need of a re-focusing of priorites something like what EA did this year.

"They need a FF7 remake to rake in some heavy cash."God, I hope they don't do this.
If there's one thing I hate more than adaptations it's remakes...
But I agree that they have got to stop their remakes... it was fun for a while, but if they put half the effort they did in FF 4 remake in a new Ip, they wouldn't have as nearly as many flaws.
"They need a FF7 remake to rake in some heavy cash."No, screw that.
How about work on Final Fantasy 13 and finish it? Next Final Fantasy after that should be FF14, not 7.

How could you hate a remake of FF7...?
"LiquidPrince said:I agree that Square Enix is killing itself with all the remakes of old games, but an FFVII remake is a bit different. They've been remaking stuff like FFIV on DS because the technology for the handheld market just got to the point where it's advanced enough to handle the game. FFVII's remake would effectively make it a totally different game when you consider that they would have to do voice overs, actual cutscenes instead of avatars with speech bubbles, and a revamped world map, just to name a few."They need a FF7 remake to rake in some heavy cash."God, I hope they don't do this.

"zitosilva said:Well, if you consider they'd remake the whole graphical part, the battle systems, dialogues, etc. Then in every single aspect it'll be a new game. The only thing that would reamain the same is the story. So I don't see the point. If they're going to redo the whole thing, I'd rather they'd just stick a new story into it."LiquidPrince said:"They need a FF7 remake to rake in some heavy cash."God, I hope they don't do this.

Also, rarely remakes are any good. The only exception I can think of is Resident Evil Remake. We'd just end up thinking of the aspects that were better in the original and how they screwed up in the remake. It's like watching the same movie, but this time with special effects. And who cares about special effects?
Square's failings and problems are multiple and do not seem to stem from a single issue. Whether it was their quick adoption of a western game engine with little understanding on how to utilize it effectively, to their reliance on ports and remakes from Matrix, (The actual guys who made FFIII/FFIV DS.) to a lack of simple time and polish regarding their products Square's recent problems are entirely their own.
It also doesn't help that I feel they treat their fan-base with a level of arrogance and out right confusion that reminds me of how a game company would operate ten years ago. Being a long time Square fan, their recent decisions/practices have disturbed me.
It will be interesting to see if their profits will jump back up with DQIX.

Maybe if they stopped focusing on making DS games and re-makes of classics for the DS... wait, they sell alright. nvm then :O
"LiquidPrince said:Well maybe on launch, but unless it's as good as it's predecessors, then the sales might wane quickly."Arkthemaniac said:No. It just will. It will sell a million copies on launch day in Japan.""Dragon Quest X will eliminate all money problems they have."If it's good...

I am really worried for FF13, cos all of square enix "next-gen" games have been pretty much crap. I think the people at square are getting arrogant, because they are the biggest RPG maker in the world, i really hope the leap to "next-gen" for FF would be as smooth and great as MGS's.
