The year was 1994.  Nelson Mandela breaks the color barrier as he become South Africa's first black president, scandal looms over the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer as Nancy Kerrigan gets her kneecaps smashed by some of Tonya Harding's redneck cronies, and Woodstock makes a return and introduces a new generation of degenerates to peace, love, and mud.

But they all pale in comparison to quite possibly the greatest video game experience the world will ever see... the greatness that is Super Metroid.

Seriously, the game is super awesome and my personal all-time favorite game... your thoughts?

Yes i totally agree i went straight for this game to write something about it i worked hard on it so here's hoping they post it soon.

But anyways best game ever? maybe not ever but it ranks a close third in my heart as one of the best EVER

Great not the greatest. It was the second best on the SNES first being A Link to the Past.

It definitely comes up again and again in 'greatest ever' lists. I plan to check it out someday.

I didn't play it as a kid, but I'm playing through it now and while I agree it's a great game, I definitely think approaching for the first time as a 26-year-old is a lot different than if I had first played it as a 12-year-old.  I don't have the same patience I used to, and I get frustrated trying to find where to go next, and having to do a lot of backtracking to open up new pathways. 

But yeah, I can still see it's a great game.  I think I'm near the end?  About six hours in and I just got the plasma beam.

Top Five For Me

Ugh, I just need to sit down and play it.

I think it's a pain in the ass. Something about it just makes me terrible at it.

However, the very similar Symphony of the Night is my favorite game ever, so maybe we're not far off.

Great game, I was playing the trial on SSBB and those 2 minutes of playability brought back lots of memories, good ones and frustrating ones.

It easily makes my top 5 favorite games.

It is in my Top 10. It is most definitely an amazing game and one of the best ever. There are few other games that can be called "perfect." This one safely can.

I don't really like it all that much... actually, I don't like any of the 2D Metroids all that much.

I never played it and damn '94... shit... seems like yesterday.

It was a Saturday, my niece's boyfriend was performing a speed run on Super Metroid. (Around '97/'98, I believe).

I watched and thought "damn... he's good."

I lost interest and started drinking.

I can't remember his time. He was happy.

Prettty big game, but I didn't play it. I understand its meaning.

I don't like the 3D metroid games. I played Prime for about 2 hours and thought it was crap. It is basically a completely different game from the old Metroid games. It shouldn't even have the name Metroid in it.

I think I got my speed run time under 2 hours. I remember when I was little getting around 35 to 40 hours.
