    Overview

Synths are androids with highly advanced intelligence, designed and manufactured by the Institute. The name "synth" refers the term "synthetic human", due to their increasingly human aesthetics and sentience.

    Generations

Synths are classified into three different "generations", depending on their aesthetic and mechanical complexity - ranging from simple mechanical humanoids to those whom are indistinguishable from real humans.

    1st Generation

The first models of synths created by the Institute were simple mechanical androids. Their appearance models after the human skeleton, with a minimalist structure consisting of power supply and other mechanism in their body cavity with their visual receptors and processing units inside of their skull. The arms and legs resemble early human prostheses, consisting of tensile fibers to articulate movement in the same way as muscle fibers.

    2nd Generation

The most common type found in the Commonwealth, the second generation of synths are similar to 1st Gen with added mechanical and programming upgrades. They have an internal mesh that protects their internal mechanisms, covered externally with a layer of artificial skin. Their optical sensors are also more advanced and are essentially mechanical eyes.

    3rd Generation

The most advanced synths ever created by the Institute, 3rd generation synths are externally indistinguishable from real humans.
