But no really, even without the lisp her voice isn't very great. Did I miss some option to turn on japanese voices? I'm not usually one of "those guys", but this voice is pretty distracting. It's not every scene, but when it's there it's so bad. Is there an option somewhere that I can't find?
Tales of Xillia
Game » consists of 7 releases. Released Sep 08, 2011
The thirteenth title in the Tales franchise for PlayStation 3.
I thee why thome people wanted thubtitles.
I have no idea, but the US version appears to be english only. English Milla has a bad one that pops up occasionally.
Yeeeeeah. It's unfortunate.
I've never heard a Japanese lisp. Can the Japanese lisp?
And I'm not talking about the girl group.
Of course. I've heard some people gain a lisp when switching to English from their native language. Definitely seen that happen to some Japanese and other Asian folks.
Haven't had a chance to play yet. Which one are you talking about?
Let's pretend it's an endearing character trait.

I really meant a lisp when speaking in japanese.

Japanese people can lisp. It's seen as cute though.

Vids or it didn't happen.
It's 2013 and we're still getting shitty english dubs?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to try and impose my own preferences on the rest of the world (which is that I would like to hear everything in a game, movie or t.v. show in its original language), but considering that the people buying a tales game in this day and age are probably going to be hardcore japanophiles, it seems less than wise.
Obviously the main problem would be fitting the data on to the disc, but somehow I just don't find it that likely that xillia uses up quite all the space on a blu-ray disc.

It can be cute in English as well, but it's not in this case. In fact, it reminds me of the girl from infamous 2. I'm gonna go check if it's the same person.
Edit: Nope. Different people. Similar problem.
Don't blame me for your memory failing you. :)
@bocam actually made a thread about this very issue.

I looked it up, Milla's english VA is a Japanese American actress known for General Hospital. Her voice-over list is very small. She's 40 and went to high school in America, so I wouldn't expect she'd have a lisp due to an accent. Then you have Jude as an established VA. Not sure who did the casting for this, but they must've been able to pick someone with more experience. It doesn't even have to be someone that established like a Wendee Lee or whatever. Oh well.
I'm not intending to fault this woman for her lisp, but I would've thought that a voice actor in a video game in 2013 wouldn't have had one. I'll keep on playing, game is fun :D

Hoh? First time I've ever seen an eroge brought up on GB. Real weird because I just saw that game's title in a list of visual novels earlier today.
My bad, probably the word "shitty" shouldn't necessarily apply here; as far as English voice actresses go Milla's English one is probably perfectly fine. I'm biased against them though: I've been burned by shitty voice overs in English so many times, whereas if you listen to the Japanese original it's harder for me notice shitty voice acting (though recently I've gotten burned by shitty voice work in Japanese too... :/).
Regardless, I still think there absolutely NEEDS to be an option in modern JRPG's for the original voice acting; you're killing part of the experience to many people to not have that option. Case in point: I'm a fan of Leia's voice actress. Too bad I won't get to hear her performance if/when I get the game.

So a japanese lisp isn't a soft TH on the S like it is in english? I figured it would be the same in both.

Data hasn't been an obstacle in a long time. Depending on various logistics for how the game plays its audio files, it can be a lot more trouble than it's worth to have an option for alternate tracks. Most of the time though, it's excluded because it's a situation where they would have to re-license the Japanese VA.
Anyway, from what I've now played of it, I wouldn't call it a 'shitty dub'. I'm someone who definitely prefers original audio when possible, but this is totally fine. About on par with the expected, and better than Graces so far.
We're talking about a minor lisp here, and that doesn't exactly equate to 'bad acting'. Jeez.
Vids or it didn't happen.
There are no subtitles? Not having the japanese voice track I can understand, but a lack of subtitles at all is pretty inexcusable.

There's an option to turn them on right at the beginning of the game
Good example.

Oh. Misleading thread title.
Her lisp reminds me of Doctor Light from Megaman 8.
This statement convinced me not to buy the game. Megaman 8 still has the worst voice acting ever, and Doctor Light is one of the main reasons why I say that.
@monetarydread: Maybe you should actually listen to her voice first to see whether that's even true and not just an exaggeration, like the internet is wont to do? Just a thought.

They're even on by default.

I second this, it's really not that bad and you only notice it after she first speaks then you get used to it. Now Teepo...I swear when he speaks I want to punch the screen. If he says Wah-Hey! one more time...

True. Sorry for misleading.
