The long-awaited sequel to the class-based first-person shooter Team Fortress Classic sports a unique cartoony visual style, more accessible gameplay, and a very large amount of updates and new features since its original release.
Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications. We're going to adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system. Due to us not having a policy in place prior to today, this time we're only removing the items earned through cheating the system. Going forward, if we find users using external applications, we'll remove all of their items. If you're interested, only about 4.5% of the players in TF2's community will be affected by this cleansing process.
Meanwhile, everyone who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory. We've also significantly increased the chance of finding any of the existing hats.
I wonder how well the detection system will work this time. I hacked all of my achievements into TF2 to get the weapons, but they were never taken away after they posted that one blog post.
The best thing is that now the odds of getting a hat are higher.
I haven't unlocked any hats yet so it's nice they're upping the chance. It would be nice if they implemented the crafting of duplicate items into ones you want. I've got soo many backburners and boxing gloves.

This is so stupid. First of all they create an absurd "random drop" scheme that some people hated, then they go on and bring back items with achievements. Now, us idlers are getting punished over "cheating" and having our items taken away.
I never earned any hats, and most guns I idled I already owned, but still... its just annoying how Valve can go and call us cheaters then tell everyone that they are increasing the hat drop rate. Basically saying "Hey, we're Valve and I know we're idiots, but we're shutting down the regularly unobtainable and time consuming item idler, but oh hey we're going to slightly increase the drop rate for the hats you've been miserably searching for."
This basically only rewards the 90% of people who don't give a shit about hats and the 5% who do.

Don't game the system and you're fine. I really want a some hats and the weapons for all classes but I didn't idle.
Cool, I just got my halo and am very happy the drop rate has been increased, thanks Valve. Also glad that their helping deal with idlers, I don't see why people think they should be allowed to cheat the system and not be punished.
So, is that 4.5% of everyone who owns TF2, or 4.5% of people who have actually played it since the hats & random drops update? Sometimes I was getting the impression that I was the only dude not idling. Everyone seemed to be doing it. So I get the feeling they may be manipulating the figures to make the playerbase seem more honourable than they actually are.
I got bored of that game awhile ago. The only class i liked to play was the engi, but since almost every other class has gotten upgraded i feel we are very gimped. Plus no one ever helps the fucking engi, and i was tired of getting ass raped by 4 people the second i tried to deploy anythig.

To those of you with halos, lucky you! Congrats! You now have your ( possibly ) first hat given to you without any effort and it is now the most common hat in the game.
The 4.5% of idlers that have been flag "branded", we now have a crazy "medal" for ourselves.
Though I still do not agree with what Valve did to their community, I no longer care about the incident.

Are you honestly implying that playing a game where hats drop at a below 1% chance is "Effort" or "Skill"?

My friend hasn't played it at all, he got the OB for episodes 2 and portal. He didn't get the Halo. And I don't actually see what you're getting at? No, of COURSE I didn't know that it was coming out, why would I? I'm just saying it's a nice little bonus for people who didn't feel the need to cheat.

Wow that's really weird, some people have far too much time on their hands to get up in arms over something like that. Calling people a fag just because they didn't use the cheat program doesn't really make a lot of sense.
Something quite amusing though is that if Spies cloak while wearing the Halo the particle effect still shows up giving you some easy headshots.
