    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game » consists of 30 releases. Released Nov 11, 2011

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.

I may be in the minority here ...

I own both a PC capable of playing newly released games and a Xbox 360.

Amazing graphics on this new elder scrolls game.
Amazing graphics on this new elder scrolls game.

Having seen the TES: Skyrim and Mass effect 3 at E3 i have decided to buy both for my Xbox.

Now this is not because I prefer the handling of the games on the controller. I mean most modern PC games that are released on multiple systems have the option to use the controller anyway.

But it is because i had the most fun on these types of games on the 360.

I can't get into these games on my PC as I have no speakers only a headset and a small 120hz monitor ( I play TF2 competitively)

I don't have to worry about the game not supporting my Graphics card or my processor not being fast enough to give a good frame rate.

I love being able to just put that disk in my console and play from the get go.

Granted the graphics won't be as amazing as they could be if running on a Powerful pc.

    But i honestly don't care.

Also i care not for mods either. I know that is a main reason why people prefer oblivion etc on the PC.

    How about you Giantbomb ?

I don't really get your reasons but whatever. I find clicking on an icon a bit easier than putting in a disk. Its your call I guess, but Fallout 3 woulda been boring as shit for me without the mods. Bethesda games have one of the best mod communities out there as far as qualitative output and naked boobie rendering.

I'm getting both on PC. ME mostly because that's where I started and finished the other ones and Elder Scrolls because I played Oblivion on PC. Also, mods. I hope Bethesda can release an 80 percent bug-free game this time, but I doubt it. Mods have always helped with the Bethesda "jank". Can't blame them though. Their worlds be YUGE!

PC upgrades are just to expensive to warrant the better graphics and mods so i'll also be getting the Xbox versions of both also my Mass Effect saves are on my Xbox hard drive.

That's why I'd get Mass Effect 3 on Xbox (at least first, might do what I did with the other 2 and buy it on PC later)

That said, I don't quite understand your reasoning for Skyrim. Don't get me wrong, I've spent more time with Morrowind on the Xbox over the PC version I got many years later, but that said I've played the recent Bethesda games on my PC and loved it to bits.

I played Oblivion and Mass Effect first on the xbox. Maybe if it was the other way around it would be different.

If you buy smart you only have to upgrade once every 3-4 years MAX. I'd wager you can go longer than that unless you want to be running the latest cutting edge games maxed out.

Heck if I still gamed at 720P today on my PC then I bet my old 8800GTX would still be going strong, that card is nearly 5 years old! Still ran Crysis mighty well even at 1920x1200. (higher res than 1080P)

See, you don't have to upgrade all that often at all.

Anyway, I'll buy it for PC, not having to put in a disk > console.  Of course there's some exceptions, I tend to lean towards the console version of games that  are more controller friendly like Assassin's Creed, but it depends. (even though I do have a 360 pad for my PC)

That said though not that fussed about Skyrim yet, thought Oblivion was garbage, really, really wanted to 'get' it but I just didn't see why people liked it so much.

Honestly, I'd get it for 360 too. Sure you don't get mods or better graphics, but I thought the controls (moving around inventory and setting spells) were a lot better and easier on the 360.

I would actually be willing to turn the settings waaaay down just to get the Skyrim to work on my weak computer. I have never cared much about graphical fidelity. Mods, however, can be lots of fun. I wouldn't dare play Oblivion/Morrowind again without them. Of course Morrowind on the original Xbox was a travesty in its own right, but that's beside the point.

For a game like Skyrim, where I'll be playing for a long long time, I much prefer to sit in my recliner, so yeah, 360 for me too.

Of course once it goes on sale on Steam I'll pick it up there too.

As for mods, I could care less. Most are either overindulgent or break the things I like about Bethesda's games. And I've never played a mod (other than maybe a UI mod) that felt like it could have shipped with the game.

I play my pc games with my 5.1 1000W home theater system, and 40" HD tv from 3 feet away. I have my feet up while leaned back and drinking a beer. I am pretty fucking confortable, and enjoy playing pc games.

I have all consoles, but preffer playing games on pc. Also steam makes me happy having a huge collection of games without worrying about discs. Also 4MB/s down means I can download a full game pretty god damn fast.

I also play certain pc games with my 360 controller with the usb wireless adaptor, and I use my 360 racing wheel with it.

No idea what your talking about, so I didn't really bother to process what you said. I am going to get it for the pc because I want good graphics and I know how to use a keyboard and mouse. Maybe scaled down graphics and 720p and simplified controls are good enough for some ppl.

Eh it's just tradition for certain series. I'll never play COD on a PC, despite having just built a more modern one, I save that for xbox, as an example.

But for Elder Scrolls games, I've been playing them on the PC since Morrowind, so I kinda just stick to that. It basically all depends on what platform I started the series on.

Also for Skyrim, I know I'm going to be way into mods like the last two games so it pretty much has to be PC for me.

If I buy it for anything, it'll be the PS3, given that I think my PC would acquire sentience and attempt to murder me if I tried installing the game on it.

I like using my thumbs like a little child. All this "two hands placed on two separate things" is too much for me, man. I like my gaming with joysticks, damn it. And buttons! And possibly triggers.

Just not a fan of mouse controls for anything other than FPS' and strategy games. I expect to mostly play this in 3rd person mode and it feels weird and floaty playing that way with a mouse for me.

I bought Morrowind on XBOX because I didn't have a PC that could handle it and I bought Oblivion on 360 because it kept crashing all the time on PC. It's so much more simple to play on consoles where you don't have to worry (as much) about that.

I understand what you mean though, I played Oblivion on PC with mods and after that going back to it on 360 is impossible, especially playing without the natural environments mod since without it everything seems so bleak and washed out.

To the OP, it sounds like your problem is you don't have a computer suitable for playing games. Tiny monitor and no speakers? If I were you I would upgrade my PC and play 'best on PC' games where they are best experienced.

But that is only if you've got the budget room to buy some new hardware. If you can't get speakers and a good monitor, then you don't have a real choice between PC and console, you have a situation where your purchase is dictated by your financial situation.

PC is the clear way to go in my book.

I play PC games on my HD TV sitting on my couch with a wireless 360 controller all the time. Hell I even have my sound running through the hdmi (GPU SPDIF in from mobo) so I can have the sound coming out my TV, and also run it through my PC sub so I can still get some bump.

Didn't take much work to get it all set up and if you don't know how, the internet, believe it or not has some great information out there if you look for it.

So yeah Skyrim will be on PC proper. I like my graphics and mods.

I completely understand your reasoning.  I am in a very similar boat albeit with a different genre.  If and when I pick up Call of Duty, Battlefield 3 and any other similar shooter, it will be for a console (360 or PS3) because I enjoy playing those games more on those systems.  I could get any of them for my PC, but I don't find them to be as much fun there.  Some of it is a matter of control but a lot of it is the ease of use.  I can sit back on my couch and watch the world burn in comfort rather than be hunched over my keyboard with my face a foot from the screen.  I am more into RPGs on the PC these days, especially the Elder Scrolls, because I like to add mods to the games.  I wouldn't have enjoyed Dragon Age Origins as much on the console if I had to put up with there being no "no helmet" option.  Besides, mods extend the life of play for me in these single-player adventures.  I'm still playing Elder Scrolls Oblivion thanks to the extensive mods available.  However, shooters are different for me.  I'm in, I'm out, I move on.  That makes them perfect for console play in my opinion.  I know Battlefield purists will tear their hair out at that notion, but that's how I feel.

Here's the thing about playing games on my PC.  If I'm on my PC, I'm on a machine capable of doing other things.  I feel obligated to alt-tab out and do those things sometimes.  On my X-box, I am using a single purpose device.  Other possibilities do not distract me.

Anyway.  ME3 - Xbox 360. That's where my saves are.  Skyrim - PC.  Need a mod to make the chicks hotter.
