Absolute Grade A Brilliance
I've been with Telltale for a bit. I started playing their games, back when they made the Strong Bad games, and I got more and more into them, the more they embraced systems I own, such as Mac, iOS, and others. I've been with them through their first "emotional" moment (end of Sam and Max season 3), and with them with BTTF, but this is where they shine.
To call this game GOTY material is selling it short. This game will go down in the hallway of history we reserve for games like Mario, Zelda, Tetris, Half Life, Deus Ex, and all the other greats. Because it is great, and a motherfucker all at the same time.
Telltale has been a firm believer of the episodic series. Once a month, a new part will come out, and new wacky hilarity would happen to characters, but a strong story really hasn't been tried until BTTF. Sure, there was a light story, running through the episodes, but it would have to be explained all in the last episode. This is not a concern of The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead, puts you in the shoes of Lee Everett, a convicted murderer. Thats all you know. From there, you are thrown into the Zombie apocalypse, and told to fend for yourself. You meet many characters along the way, some nice, some real assholes, but the main character is Clementine, an 8 year old girl. You find yourself fending, fighting, and protecting her, all along the way, no matter what happens.
What does happen is a deeply emotional, tense, sometimes scary story, that made me cry hard at the end. Don't wait for it to be on sale. Don't wait for it to be in a boxed version. Don't wait for anything, just buy it.
