"We don't have zero DRM, we just have very simple DRM. In fact with our boxed copies we'll have almost no DRM at all," he revealed.

"The way we're handling it is that you'll have access to our patching and matchmaking service only by logging in with your account. You don't need to use either of those but that's how we're approaching it.

"We don't want to penalise our honest customers just to squeak out a few more sales from people who pirate."

Sounds fair, game pirates won't be able to patch the game or play online.

Edit: bah, so okay it will probably be hacked and all. Naive me.

Pirates will find a way to patch the game and play online. But if they put in some super restrictive DRM in, pirates would find away around that too, and it would only affect legitimate users.

I remember having to use no-CD cracks and Hamachi virtual LAN software to be able to play various online games with shitty DRM services on legitmate copies of games.

    Phew, that's a mouthful.

I'm okay with that. They're making some attempt to protect their product, as any developer has the right to do, but not doing so in such a way that's going to make playing this game obtuse and frustrating.

@Laketown: I know. I was replying to the OP's comment about it stopping the pirates.

When reading news such as the Diablo 3 bullshit, it's making me miss the old days of CD-keys.

Eep, I don't. Nothing worse than some chucklehead with a keygen generating your key.
