Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth Review
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is a remake/port of the popular but hard to fine PlayStation 1 game Valkyrie Profile. You will be taking on the role of Lenneth a warrior from Valhalla. You will be sent to earth to find and recruit warriors to help the gods combat ragnarok (the end of days basically). This is a 2D-ish sidescrolling RPG that has the power of Norse mythology behind it.
The graphics are amazing in the cutscenes and seem to push the PSP just enough for a visual display that is plesant to gaze upon. The overworld map could probably still use some help but the towns and the dungeons, etc. look good on the PSP screen (which can sometimes me a problem when it comes to a port).
The controls aren't too complicated allowing the user to enjoy the battle instead of having to worry about what button needs to be pressed. It sometimes feels a bit clunky when moving around outside of battle, but for the most part the controls are sufficient in what they need to be used for.
The music is light at the right times and a bit heavier at the right times. There are some melodies that you'll want to mute after a while, but that's the norm in RPGs these days.
My only qualm about the game is the inability to skip cutscenes. There are times, such as restarting the game, when it isn't necessary to see what the backstory is. Also there are sometimes areas that have no value to visit but still cost you time. Which reminds me, you are on a timer throughout the game and when the bell tolls the battle begins no matter what you still need to do. If you are looking for a game with some Norse mythology in it that plays well and you're the kind of person that likes a defined time that you have to play then this is the game for you. I give this game an 8.5 out of 10.
