I love the addition of the topic being discussed in the corner. More than once i've struggled to figure out what game they're discussing because the beginning involved multiple people talking over each other or just being too lazy to skip around trying to find the start of the conversation. Really helps when listening to the bombcast in the background while working or playing games.

Jessica Price deserved to get fired, she posted a sexist response about "manfeels". Flip the gender roles (A man posting sexist attacks at women) and the firing would make sense.

i'm hearing very low but noticeable intermittent audio pops. the audio only version seems fine. also, i really wish they would boost the volume to regular levels just like the audio only version has.

@rubley: I think we would both rather be in a world that would take it slower, go through a disciplinary review, and issue an apology and an explanation if warranted. If we want to have game developers be candid with us, the audience, then we should exercise a certain amount of patience, understanding, and responsibility with the power that comes from that increased access to the artists. But, hey, you do you if that's how you want to go at it.

It was really cool to see Jeff and Dan at AX 2018! Judging from the convention map, Jeff and Dan entered on the west side of the South Hall where it was very easy to go past the CyGames and Marvelous booths to the ramshackle dealer shops. All the big anime industry booths are lined up at the front of the South Hall, so that's where all the nice Aniplex, Bandai Namco, Good Smile, and other booths are.

As for other things to do at an anime con other than shop, Jeff is correct in that there are all sorts of industry and fan panels to go in to. Also, AX has all the big premieres of series and movies where you get to watch stuff first. Lastly, anime song concerts!

@sicamore: Oh good I was afraid I was either losing my mind or my PC was slowly combusting. There's something they use that causes it, I hear it on some other streams, too. I remember it being bad on a lot of their Murder Island streams.

@eribuster: Apparently she's been fired before. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume she's not a great employee and this wasn't the only thing that led to her firing. Also, Washington is an at will employment, meaning someone can be fired at any time for any reason. If you ran your own company (I do) and had to deal with an employee attacking customers on twitter with sexist remarks you'd understand.

Ms. Price has a history of unprofessional comportment in the public sphere, both while on-the-job and—ahem—after-the-job. (Not her first firing in this industry, folks!) The guy who @ her on Twitter wasn’t a “rando asshat” in the GW community, and his original tweet did not contain disrespectful language or reek of condescension. (Go read it, Mr. Oestreicher, should you bother.)

I’ll wager ArenaNet execs and HR met and (quickly) arrived at the conclusion an employee who behaves like that on social media is a very poor look for the company.

Don't expect them to read up on it. Every "news" outlet is taking it out of context and will just stick to that narrative. Guess I can just lash out at my customers and expect to keep my job hmm.

@deks: @numbertenox: @rubley:I can only go on information that I've read so far, everyone has biases yada yada:

Price is an experienced writer in gaming and has also worked on comics, animated series and novels. Her resume includes companies such as Microsoft and Harebrained Schemes. She said she was previously fired from a role-playing game company for complaining about its lack of response to a male business associate who sexually harassed women at the company.

“At that point, I was contemplating getting out of games,” she said. “But ArenaNet was interested, and I decided to give it another shot. I got into games, specifically game narrative, because I think stories are enormously powerful and I’m interested in exploring how interactive stories are different.”

https://www.polygon.com/2018/7/9/17549492/arenanet-jessica-price-guild-wars-2-writer-fired

So, if we're in the position that said interview is horse shit, then I have nothing to go on.

The things that also stick out to me:

Price said she had no previous problem with her bosses about her social media activities.

...

Following the firings, O’Brien released a statement saying that Price’s and Fries’ “attacks on the community” were “unacceptable.”

So, at the very least, ArenaNet hired a person that ran rather hot, so to speak, and was accepting of that aspect of her. Until it wasn't convenient.

With a lot of video game companies these days, there is a push to have your employees to be candid, personal, and available to the audience. From other comments on ArenaNet on this site, it reads that ArenaNet has a history to be proud of in that aspect. Now, if the business you're running is pushing your employees to be that social (particularly during off hours), then fair enough if that's where you have your rules. If not, then can we at least have some consideration for the new, weird, and stumbling position and direction video game companies are going in with regards to the level and amount of social interaction with their customers.

If we're shooting the shit here and assuming that she's a troublesome employee and/or person, then could we at least consider the scenario that she gets a troublesome level and amount of crap in her mentions. And that this is an unfortunate time that she snapped.

If the only point that we care about here is that she snapped in public and that all we can think about of this situation is that, "you don't snap in public; never let them see you snap," then can we come to our own little conclusion here that video game companies should have a clear, detailed, delineated, and stringent polices with regards to social media? Also, a secondary conclusion that maybe not all companies have such rigorous polices. Also, a tertiary conclusion that if an employee is non-committal to being on the PR clock 24/7, that they are instructed to be very private with their social media usage.

There, we solved it! :D

@rubley: Add the fact that she was one of the people that publicly celebrated John Bain's death and it's very hard for me to have any sympathy for her.

The legal right to do something and a thing being morally right to do are often very different, especially when it comes to labor rights in the US. I can understand that being in a management role has its difficulties but I think you might do well to consider the difficulty of having your livelihood dangle on another person's whim, or the immense stress that comes from your employment potentially being at stake in every public moment of your life.

I'll also add that calling this a sexist attack shows a very shallow understanding of what sexism is and the problems it creates in a workplace.

Citation for any of this? Are you referring to Paizo, the company that told its employees to be quiet about a repeat sexual harasser up until he got so drunk and violent at one of their conventions he had to be physically removed by police, and that she had previously tried to warn people about after he made inappropriate remarks to her in private?

I've seen so much disenguenous reporting on the ANet stuff. If you are so impulsive you're willing to go off on an affiliate you probably shouldn't be posting publically under your own name. Every public figure complains about their twitter feed being filled with hate, trolls or idiots if you can't control yourself you should disengage.

Like if you hired a lawyer and texted them on the weekend with a basic ass question and they responded something like "fuck I'm not on the clock right now I dont owe you an answer ask me Monday" you wouldn't excuse it you would be like this lawyer is an unprofessional jerk I'm not working with them again.
