Nice. I've been waiting for this for a while.

Does anyone know where this comes in the Game of Thrones timeline? Is this a bridge between season 4 and 5 of the show?

That's super cool! Surprise release, and what a pleasant one. I loved both seasons of The Walking Dead and thus am understandably hyped for this game.

It runs parallel to the end of season three and parts of season four, from what I can tell.

Looking forward to Peter Dinklage's next big VO role after his show-stopping performance in Destiny.

I'll be playing it eventually. Seems like it'll be faithful to my Game of Thrones experience (you know, avoiding Internet spoilers at every turn).

So yeah.... the fact that there was no marketing for this game has me concerned.

The reason The Walking Dead worked was because nobody expected it to be good. Original ideas are novel in this industry and we celebrate them. But when devs don't expand upon those ideas, the audience loses interest.

I'll ask here since you guys are knowledgeable: if this thing is gonna last a year, and I plan on getting an X1 this next year, should I start this on 360? Any way to import progress? I want to play it but I don't want to already plan to play it over again just to keep my same choices.

I wasn't sure after Walking Dead if I was done with these games so I played the Wolf Among Us. Seeing this, the familiar looking characters models, even the way the girl looks off to the side like so many characters do in these Tell Tale games - yah I'm done.

The first modern tell tale without a comic origin.

Established fiction and real life voice actor/uncanny valley.

Still going to play it because the story/value proposition from tell tale is always terrific.

I'm killing Ramsay the first chance I get (which probably won't happen until the very end since he's the main antagonist)!

@rollingzeppelin: I imagine that you won't be able to kill any of the lead show/book characters. Ramsay has a whole lot more antagonizing to go in the show universe. :P

House Whitehill (mentioned in the trailer) seem to be the counterpart to House Forrester. They'll loyal to the Boltons as opposed to the Starks, they're briefly mentioned in the book, and they can be fucked with without moving things into the non-canonical. You'll probably have the opportunity to kill some of them.

@dropkickpikachu: I think his performance in Destiny can be owed to a general lack of quality writing for his part, as well as poor voice direction. Even the most talented actors can only do so much with the material they're given.

The problem with Game of Thrones is the same as Wolf Among Us. You can't do anything to the major characters or upset the world in a big way.

So, as someone that hasn't read or watched any games of thrones at all, it looks boring. As a Telltale fan, I'm looking forward to it. I need to watch the show/read the GoT books too soon.

I suppose it depends on how much they use the already made characters in their game, take a look at Walking Dead for an instance, fan of the game or not, those games are pretty much 100% original characters (only 2 brief appearances by major comic/show characters that bounce almost immediately) so, as long as they focus on making their own characters and putting those characters and their unique situation in danger it'll be fine.

Maybe give Tales from the Borderlands a try, it has a very different tone compared to Telltale's more recent stuff. I'm looking forward to the second episode of that more than to this to be honest. If you're completely done with that kind of storytelling then it probably won't do much for you though.

Never has Telltale's graphics engine looked worse than it does here - where nearly everything is being compared in my mind to actual people on an extremely well shot show. Telltale needs to up their game graphically. This is just ugly. Borderlands seems to have hit that style well but photorealism is not their strongsuit.

This looks amazing, but I'll wait until they release all the episodes on disc for PS4 and then play through in one sitting.

Seconding this, Tales from the Borderlands is game of the year material. I would never have expected something genuinely funny to stem from Borderlands, but here it is. Even if you feel done with their usual style storytelling, it shakes up the formula with opposing and unreliable narrators.

Tales from the Borderlands had a rad first episode but I've burnt through my gaming budget after having to buy a new GPU for Dragon Age so this will have to wait :(

I really hope the 'main' characters from the series are just being showcased for the trailers, the farther removed this game is from the main story the better.

I really dig what they've done with the art. It looks kind of watercolored. I know Telltale is never going to produce anything photo-realistic, but their varied art styles always make up for it.

@octaslash: I have nothing against how it looks, but let's not kid ourselves; It's literally the Walking Dead graphics without outlines.

Not really. The characters in Walking Dead are much more cartoonish and exaggerated. The textures also look a lot different, but I can't really find the words to describe it. The animation certainly looks like every other Telltale game though (not really a good thing).

Yes, I just wanted to be contrarian about the art in an adventure game.

Telltale's story telling style certainly lends itself better to Game of Thrones than say Borderlands, so looking forward to this. For sure gonna buy this.

Man, I REALLY hope that they break away from established universe characters over the course of this series. It completely pulls me out of the story when suddenly characters come in with established arcs, known back-stories and predetermined fates.

@incertainsights: Probably not. The game involves characters, locations, and events from the show and assumes you understand those things already. I would watch the series at least through Season 3 before starting this.
