Congratulations, you passed the hardest part of the game.

Interesting to see how the series has changed from this to DS3 given Brad's impressions of this game now.

Brad's crazed laughter when the silver knight falls off. The laugh of a man driven mad by the AL archers.

People really say the second half is the worst? I thought the second half was where it actually gets interesting and fun. You start seeing some of the story important and difficult bosses and your character build starts to come together so you feel like you can actually stand up to these dignified monstrosities. I can't be the only one who thought the second half was the better half of DS 1.

Please, please, please tell me someone has GIF'd 1:05:08 when Brad opens the Mimic, it chews on him, lets him live, and then the knight lunges in from off screen to finish him. I need it.

I like the bosses, Bed of Chaos excluded, but all of the areas are kinda garbage.

The game doesn't become bad or anything, but I really dislike Crystal Caves and Lost Izalith.

Playing through DS1 now and just finished this area last week. Probably my favorite in the game so far, and my Knight(/Warrior?) build is really starting to feel complete. I am maxed out on strength and now moving on slowly building on dexterity.

Ya know, the archers wouldn't be such an infamous encounter if more people thought, "hey, I wonder if I can two-hand shields as well as weapons." I get that it's a little outside the box but come on! Try shit out people! Experiment! Good on you, Brad. You figured out the absolute best way past the archers. The archer running off the ledge to his death let you get past that area without ever seeing how amazing of a tactic two-handing a shield actually is, but whatever. I'm proud of you anyway. Hardly anyone even thinks to try it in the first place.

And if you're going to keep playing, I highly recommend putting the Eagle Shield back on and using it as your main shield for the rest of the game. That shield is a pain in the ass to get because the developers know how good it is. If you have it, and the strength to use it, and you don't care about parrying, there's no reason not to use it. 70 base stability Brad! 70! Idk if you know what stability is, but trust me when I say you want 70 of it! Also heavy deflection! Again, idk if you know what that means but trust me that you want it!

Brad, it's a little late to take full advantage of this advice, but it will still help you through the rest of the game:

Your #1 priority after you die is ALWAYS ALWAYS GET YOUR SOULS. Even if you have to run into certain death to get them, DO IT. Your bloodstain will spawn closer to the bonfire the next time around, and more importantly there is no penalty for dying hundreds of times in a row, as long as you GET YOUR SOULS. The reason you are under-leveled and under-geared at this point of the game is simply because you have left dozens of potential levels and weapon upgrades rot away.

Also, if you have a particularly souls-heavy bloodstain out in the world somewhere, and you aren't confident you can even reach it without dying first, equip a Ring of Sacrifice. They protect both your current souls, AND your most recent bloodstain.

All I could think throughout this was "if this guy can do it, anyone can do it." Rolling into attacks, not looking behind him to see if enemies follow, wearing heavy armor while rolling like crazy. If Brad can do it, you can do it.

Man, he really needs the ring of favor and protection. Or he needs to level and bump up his endurance and vitality like crazy. Smough and Ornstein will toss him around like a ragdoll the way he's leveled now.

That moment when Brad made it through the archers only to run right past the bonfire door and get killed... I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while. Fucking Dark Souls, man.

I must say I probably think the first half is slightly stronger but in no way is the second half of the game a slouch. However, after Anor Londo I was either overleveled (which I shouldn't have been because I rarely grinded for souls) or had just managed to get such a fucking OP weapon that nothing was ever really difficult for me. I defeated several bosses past O&S on my first try (including two out of the four bosses in the DLC), so I kind of lost the feeling of this game being a true challenge. But I still think the discovery of the different areas was exciting. The only one I probably genuinely don't like is the firey dragonbutt area, which just gets annoying after a while. Still though, it's a lava level filled with dragonbutts so you can't really argue against it's originality.

I miss good old Londo. Archers in DS3 were just sad, slow rate of fire and slow arrows. Paired with the forgiving roll I barely linked an eye. DS3 was so easy, I'm glad the series is over before they streamlined anymore of the game.

I completely disagree, if you didn't drop more than 50% of a level then it's not worth worrying about at all. Souls are really easy to get. The game is much more pleasant once you realise that.

My true enjoyment of Dark Souls only came upon losing enough Souls at once to realize it doesn't matter at all.

I loled when he ran right by the bonfire and into the silver knight. Also, I could not possibly disagree more with the sentiment that regaining your souls should be a top priority. Not in DS1 (or Demon's or DS3) at least. Only in DS2 because Soul Memory.

PS. Potato Marshall, where art thou?

Brad's refusal to use the game mechanics in a game all about mastering game mechanics is hard to watch. Funny but hard to watch.
