Every time i watch a trailer for this game the more depressed I get. Squinix just doesn't get it.

I didn't miss moogles in XIII, but they are so adorably cute I don't mind them being included either. Also have to say the guy is pretty useful in 2 as well, so it's not pure fan service, they do serve a point. Not maybe the highlight of the game, but this game is just so darned good, that whatever...there are moogles.

@bkbroiler: Mog is used for a treasure hunting mechanic in dungeons, especially in some out of the way areas. Also a kind of preemptive battle mechanic system. Nothing too involved really.

Ugh. Modern Final Fantasy is the worst. Well, maybe that's not entirely fair: The Moogles from FFXII were pretty damn fantastic.

You know...the more trailers I watch the more I want to play this game. It just looks more and more ridiculous, I want to see how strange this stuff will get. At this point, I'm hoping that like FFX-2 it's so bad it's good.

@jaymorgoth: Opinions may differ on the story (Though I don't think it's so terrible that it's good, I quite like it really), but the actual gameplay is really really good. Like, surprisingly so.

If you want insane campy moments, it has those too though.

Insufferably "cute" design and voice. I have never wanted to punch a moogle before.

The animation of her drawing that bow is so ridiculous

I beat this game recently (Japanese), and as someone else mentioned, Mog is used for treasure hunting. You can use him to 'discover' hidden items or retrieve items by throwing Mog :)

I think the moogles are fine. It's that Kingdom Hearts looking motherfucker (Noel?) they inserted into the story that's bothering me. Can't have too many Final Fantasies with a female protagonist in a row or male video game players will alienate from the franchise, I guess.

@RVonE: Well, I'd say Sera is still the main character, though Noel would be her male counterpart. They are both always kinda there. I got more of a Cross-esque Serge vibe from him, as some other posters have pointed out, more than Kingdom Hearts. Assuming Serge was a bit older and updated to the graphic engine. He kinda serves as a player insert, since he conveniently knows nothing about the world around him.

@Mistzero: Indeed, somewhere along the line they lost it. It's not just the fact that they are slow to churn out stuff, but when the games actually do release they are nothing like the older style. It becomes less intriguing story and world, and more J-pop insanity.

I used to really love Square. Games like Vagrant Story, Xenogears, and ANY Final Fantasy before 9 (imo), and let us not forget the Chrono and Mana series. Those were games that had a very distinct Square flavor and were exciting to play. This new stuff is TRIPE, and the only newer project that looks incredible is Versus, and who knows where the hell that game is. *end of rant*

- If Moogle Hunt is a new take on Chocobo Hot 'n' Cold, then count me in.
- Moogle Throw seems... reprehensible. Unless they act about it the same way the little naked dudes from Cargo do, but it sure didn't seem like that was the case.

I think it looks good! A lot of people who criticize FF13 are being way too harsh. I'm playing now trying to finish it before this comes out and I'm actually having a ton of fun. I like the role system and I don't really mind any of the characters that much - theres actually an amazing amount of character growth for a JRPG! I haven't even reached Grand Pulse yet, about 18 hours into it, and already most of the cast have broken their annoying habits. Lightning isn't acting like the stoic lone ranger anymore, Hope isn't a whiny little bitch and Snow/Sazh/Vanille I never had a problem with. The story and setting actually interest me a lot. I think the whole concept of l'cie and fal cie is very interesting. Sure theres a lot of running in a straight line and fighting bad guys along the way. I prefer that 100x over artificially game buffing fetch quests in an open world. At least something is constantly happening, plot is constantly moving forward. As I said I've played for 18 hours or so and I've never stopped and asked myself "man what am I doing here; whats the point" I always know exactly where I'm headed and why.

I KNOW! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I literally once spent 5 minutes rewinding and replaying the part where she draws that bow just to see whats going on!

I find this game's style refreshing. Yes, all the kitty cuteness included. Fuck the haters, kupo!

I like the Moogles in FF12. They seem badass!

If nothing else, this game will have some pretty cool music.

@Addfwyn: Hmm yeah I can see some Serge in there as well. It's just the wide half-long pants with the brown hair that makes me connect him to Kingdom Hearts. I loved KH but I just feel like that guy is so out of place in the rest of the aesthetic--as ridiculously fantastic FFXIII's style is, it's still consistent and I feel Noel doesn't fit in.

Also, I understand that an avatar is needed for players new to the FFXIII story, but I don't get why he also immediately has to be a protagonist. They could've just made him a travel companion asking dumb questions or whatever. The way some of those Japanese commercials are cut, it's like Sera needs a male protector because she's, you know, a fragile girl and fragiles girls need strong men to protect them.

So pumped. This game is going to be GREAT!

That moogle voice is just terrible.

I feel incredibly shallow saying this, but I don't think I want to play this game based on the notion of having to listen to that voice for 40+ hours.

I though they were trying to make these games more serious...Moogles seem pretty stupid to me.

They are losing me. Next thing I know they will put Cait Sith in the game.

@fozzyozzy: Well, since he's not particularly vocal in bow form, you can just not go treasure hunting a lot. I dunno how good Mog's normal talking voice is in the english dub, but it's not really annoying at all in Japanese. They don't really give you much actual dialogue in this clip from him besides that one line.

I love moogles, but now hearing one it's really destroyed my imagination. I always figured, since FF3, they had a gruff brooklyn accent and I really prefer my imagination over baby noises.

I do believe that trailer featured approximately 7 seconds of someone standing still.

The moogle from chocobo racing will always be the best moogle.

This. Mog from FF3/6 totally has a gruff, New York style accent.

These videos seem to be pumping out like no tomorrow.

I enjoyed the idea of Moogles acting as save points like they were in FF9.

The more I see of this game, the less and less i want to play it. How the Final Fantasy games have changed. :( I would like to have my classic square soft rpg's back.
