Wow, I didn't even know that total war had samurai games. That is awesome.... it'd be cool if it came out for mac. But I doubt that'll happen. Pity, I'd consider purchasing it, but we shall see!

Finally they make a sequel to the only Total War game that I wasn't scared to get into. Hopefully it keeps the exact same amount of complexity as the first Shogun, since all the other Total Wars were super intimidating to me.

I've been wanting a sequel to Shogun since the awesome job they did on Rome: Total War. 
I just read the title and freaked.  I'm already sold, pre-ordering this!

Its the oldest of the Total wars, has the least "features"  but for me it was the most enjoyable of the series (with Rome a close second), im so stoked for this!
.... think ill break out my old copy of Shogun TW, if it even runs on 64bit vista that is... hmmm

Odd to go back to the Shogun period after 10 years. It's a very rich setting but it would be nice to try a new series (Indo-China, Aztec, Inca-Spanish) or something like WW1 or the American Indian Wars. Given the chronology from Napoleon, the later empire building of the 19th century (India, Africa, Russia, China) would have seemed the obvious next step leading to a run through the last century.
 
Would the game work in a modern, futuristic or fantasy environment? Something totally off the wall such as a steam-punk conflict or even Star Wars? I suppose one of the strengths of the Total War games is bringing the battle maps of history books to life but sometimes it can feel a little dry and lacking in imagination.
 
A Civ-Rev type of game for the less hardcore would be an idea to bring in new fans (and one that could run on my crappy laptop).
