@jelyk: Dan plays Soma should be a feature. I know he liked and was scared shitless of Amnesia. Spookin With Dan.

I love sci-fi and this has that kind of crazy "what is going on here" vibe that I enjoy.

At the same time I hate horror games so we will see how those two things even themselves out.

Their website says $30 on Steam, so I imagine the same goes for PS4. It would be nice if there was a launch week discount for PS+ subscribers, but i'm in day 1 regardless. Been looking forward to this for a while.

This looks interesting. I don't usually love horror, because my suspension of disbelief is just too darn good. But I think I can deal with space horror better than other kinds because, you know, I've never been to space. So maybe I can dig this.

@homelessbird: Have you ever been on the ocean floor? That's pretty scary too so I imagine this game would still work well.

They revealed a year or two ago that this game does not take place out in space.

@galacticpunt: Well, horror works differently for different people. I personally get a lot more scared by serial killer type horror, since I have a much harder time divorcing myself from the situation.

Also that's pretty interesting. I guess I just assumed decrepit metal hallways with corpses and robots = space.

From what I've seen they haven't noticeably updated the mechanics from the first amnesia game. Which is bad. But there's something about a robot not knowing its a robot that freaks me out. So I'm on the fence I guess.

Edit: Also it'd be really cool if this game had a possible happy ending. For some reason Horror games that do that are weirdly subversive and cool to me.

I'm setting myself up for this to be more sci-fi mindfuckery than a classic horror game, for some reason. But I'm fine with that.

I hope this doesn't have a monster chasing you like amnesia. I would be way into that, but with a monster I get scared shitless.

@mashzapotato: If I remember correctly, all of Frictional Games' horror titles have had at least one "happy" ending with the exception of A Machine for Pigs, developed by The Chinese Room and featured a linear narrative with one ending.

The Dark Descent had one ending that was considered happy from the developer's perspective and one that was happy from the protagonist's.

Yes, I went to live in a crazy alternate dimension with the head of that guy at the end of that game. I liked that.

I really like the fact that the questioning of the identity of the protagonist (man or machine) seems to be something that will introduced early-ish in the game rather than be some lame final twist. This game looks awesome.

This doesn't look like a "scary" game to me. It looks way more likely that it will by some weird psychological stuff that they hope unsettles people? What I mean is I don't see evidence that they are going to treat this like a game where you are encountering jump scares and spooky monsters.

Unless all the marketting has been a red herring, it's pretty damn clear what is going on: it's an ep of Sealab where Quinn uploads everyone's minds to computers moments before they all predictably die. And it's painfully obvious that you're a computer too. They've pretty thoroughly blown their wad with these trailers.

Hmm. When the first trailers came out for this I was hoping it would have an SCP vibe to it. This just seems like sci-fi-horror adventure, which is fine. I was just hoping for some of the campy and creepy wackiness of SCP stories mixed with the serious horror tone that Amnesia had.

@humanity: Not my fault. The first trailer was really great. It's Frictional/their publisher that have sapped all the subtlety and intrigue out of the game with everyting since.

@icaria: I think you're being pretty reductive here, many people over on the Frictional forums have speculated that the 'twist' as you see it will be revealed early on and that will be used to explore further concepts (because, so far, Frictional has done a pretty poor job of hiding the twist, referencing it in nearly every trailer that's come out). They've always talked about how this game is more about exploring themes than anything else, so maybe knowing the 'twist' won't even be that big of a deal.

All these first person horror games are really starting to bleed together. Between this that space station one and the one that's basically Bioshock I don't know which to be excited for.

I'm rather hoping this game ignores conventional horror, and looks back to System Shock 2 (or the original from what I have seen)

@subjugation: Yeah, I agree... and that is a good thing.

I am not a fan of jump scares, so a more unsettling approach is much preferred.

Isn't this the one that's basically Bioshock? Or is there another one that takes place in an underwater facility?
