It's been seventeen years since I introduced myself to the Alien and I am still absolutely terrified of it. I can barely watch this small bit that Patrick plays through because I just instantly forget to breathe and find myself on the edge of my seat as soon as I know it's around.

I can't. Nope.

I think I'll wait for Alien: Isolation to drop in price. I'm interested in checking it out, but between this and the Quick Look I feel like I've seen most of what it has to offer, and it doesn't seem like much. I'll spend that $60 on something else down the line; maybe The Evil Within.

I've heard the opposite, that it has quite a lot of variety.

“It’s too long!”

When my editor handed me Isolation to review, I was pretty excited. I love the original film. Like, really love it. But I was still unsure about it, because I thought it might be little more than a long, gruelling game of hide-and-seek. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that, in fact, the game is full of variety and brilliantly paced.

As I say in my review, it’s constantly mixing things up to keep you engaged: removing or adding parameters to the stealth, mixing up enemy types, and shifting between different environments. I wasn’t bored once, nor did I ever feel like repetition was setting in. Games can be too long, but I never felt like Isolation outstayed its welcome. I was actually a little disappointed when it ended, because I’d fallen so hard for that world and atmosphere, and I’ll be starting my second playthrough tonight.

I really don’t understand accusations that it’s too long or that it repeats itself. I think one of its greatest strengths is that it doesn't just recycle the same set-piece over and over again. The alien is a constant threat throughout the game, but the different layout of each area you face it in, the variety of gadgets on offer, and its dynamic AI means it never feels like you’re just going through the motions.

Thank you so much Patrick, for doing another Spookin' With Scoops. Always makes my week when I know these are coming. I love these. I also like to hear your opinions on the game/dlc that you play that night. Keep up the great work.

The hum of the ship is the same one from Blade Runner.

Not so strange considering it's from the same director as Alien. Oh, and Alien is from 1979 and Bladerunner 1982 so he copied the sound from Alien to Bladerunner.

Say what you want about the game play in Alien: Isolation, they really nailed the look and the atmosphere.

So I just beat the Isolation dlc and Ash said something different to me when I spammed the button to trap the alien. It's not anything important but it's entertaining at the least.

He says something like, "Oops, I'm sorry. I guess there was a glitch in the system".

Ian Holm is the one actor they did not get and yet Ash has the most lines in the Crew Expendable dlc, at least his sound-alike is spot on.

The Last Survivor DLC also released last Tuesday but it was supposed to only be available with Gamestop pre-orders. However I decided to pre-order the game on Steam less than a day before the game was released and I was surprised to see I not only had the Crew Expendable dlc as advertised but also the Lone Survivor DLC. I assume since Gamestop isn't selling the PC version that SEGA just decided to release it for Steam pre-orders. There was no mention on the Steam page about this and you can't buy it right now if you missed out on the pre-order.

I haven't actually loaded up either DLC yet. I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and play the main game yet and I think I'll save the DLC for later.

@artelinarose: It's one of the most unsettling creature designs of all time, and thanks to the brilliance of the late H.R. Giger along with the other creators it will probably withstand the test of time for the foreseeable future.

There's something innately "alien" about it that some other extraterrestrials in fiction lack, yet the HUMAN inside the suit somehow makes it that much more uncanny...

Rewatching the five nights at Freddy part is great to watch you get scared when they come and getcha. Really is a cool little game since it makes you do these little tasks like check the security cameras and do the lights then bam they come out of no where.

"We should have just gone back to bed. That would have been the much better option"

Welcome to depression, my dear Scoops.
