I'm ready to be spooked

the reason I love shocktober, is because scoops is a cool dude.

Really thought Neverending Nightmares was going to be scarier than it ended up being. The trailer was quite creepy, but then it turned out that if you saw that, you'd seen most of what the game had to offer.

Wow that thumbnail gave me the creeps!

Brad should do one of these with Patrick one time. its become very apparent that Brad does not do well with horror at all.

So this might be a dumb question, but: if I plan to play Alien: Isolation eventually but haven't yet, will watching this DLC spoil it for me?

Just in time for lunch! I won't play these games on my own, but I will watch Patrick play them!

I feel like giving the player the flamethrower right away for this was a mistake.

Of course, it's really just giving the player a false sense of security, as the air shaft moment so eloquently proves...

@adrianmajkrzak: Pretty sure that face is from 'The Exorcist' - it was a random face that just appeared out of no where during the film (2nd most creepy part of the film imo)

*shudder* That face is one of two things in horror movies that still genuinely scare me.

I've been trying to download this video for a solid hour now and it goes slow as hell... :(

@diehappygames: Yeah, even with its low budget in mind, the games' novelty factor wears thin way before the one to two hour mark it takes to finish it. It's an incredibly cool concept with some stand out moments (all of them well-placed jumpscares), that's executed poorly and I couldn't even bother to see the two extra endings.

Oh Man I remember with all the crazy shit Linda Blair pulls on The Exorcist, that face was still one of the scariest parts of the movie to me...

"cheap jumpscare game" is such an apt term for FNAF.

Alien Isolation on the Oculus Rift DK2

A frantic hunt began, with several members trawling through code and experimenting with settings until voila!Popcorncrackle managed to get the game running. Here are his instructions from the reddit page:

1) Go to Program Files > Steam > steamapps > common > Alien Isolation > DATA

2) Open the ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML file using Text Edit, and change the stereo options to:

<Quality name=”Rift” precedence=”4″/>

</Setting>

(<Setting name=”Stereo Mode”>

<Quality name=”Rift” precedence=”4″/>

</Setting>)

3) Open BENCHMARK_TEMPLATE.TXT and change:

Stereo Mode=Rift

4) Set your Oculus Rift DK2 to Extended mode

5) Open the Oculus Configuration Utility and pause the service

6) Play the game.

7) To re-calibrate your orientation press LB or RB at the same time on Xbox 360 controller.

Alien is indeed one of the best movies ever made and it is a legitimately scary one. That being said it speaks to the power of the medium of games that I get a lot more scared even watching someone else play a so-so video game recreation of that scene from Alien than I ever did actually watching the movie.

Also that guy in the picture in Never Ending Nightmares was Phil Fish, right?

Just gonna say it - Patrick; improving drastically in speech. I avoided his sections on the Bombcast for quite some time but now I am specifically seeking out his monologues for the smooth wordplay and tone. Excellent progression.

The cat & mouse-ness of Alien Isolation's DLC looks pretty great. And that sound design is... incredible.

Loved the hell out of Neverending Nightmares, glad I played it and did all three branches. The best of what a horror game should be: disturbing, tragic, and ambiguous. Still need to play DreadOut and Alien Isolation, but definitely one of my favourite horror games of 2014. Hope more people check it out.

I get really distressed whenever someone runs when they don't need to in Neverending Nightmares. The guy has severe asthma and it seems real shitty to force him to run when he doesn't have to.

Am I crazy or should the caption not say, After trying to survive another night at Freddy's, we explore the first DLC for Alien: Isolation, rather than Before, given that the first thing he does play FNAF. /Pointless most likely wrong nitpick

Laughed at Resurrection being the last DLC.

Alien Resurrection is garbage and so is Joss Whedon.

Firefly is the only thing he's ever done that's remotely worth watching.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this live. I hope Patrick plays the other Alien DLC when they come out. That was fantastic to watch. Five Nights At Freddy's doesn't quite do it for me, but it's still enjoyable to watch Patrick freak the fuck out with those jump scares. That first one got me real good too. Thanks Patrick.
